KFC will test lab-grown chicken nuggets made with a 3D bioprinter this fall in Russia

KFC will test chicken nuggets made with 3D bioprinting technology in Moscow, Russia, this fall, the chain announced in a July 16 press release.

The chicken chain has partnered with 3D Bioprinting Solutions to create a chicken nugget made in a lab with chicken and plant cells using bioprinting. Bioprinting, which uses 3D-printing techniques to combine biological material, is used in medicine to create tissue and even organs.

The 3D-printed chicken nuggets will closely mimic the taste and appearance of KFC's original chicken nuggets, according to the press release. KFC expects the production of 3D-printed nuggets to be more environmentally friendly than the production process of its traditional chicken nuggets. The fall release will mark the first debut of a lab-grown chicken nugget at a global fast-food chain like KFC.

"Crafted meat products are the next step in the development of our 'restaurant of the future' concept. Our experiment in testing 3D bioprinting technology to create chicken products can also help address several looming global problems. We are glad to contribute to its development and are working to make it available to thousands of people in Russia and, if possible, around the world," Raisa Polyakova, the CEO of KFC Russia and Commonwealth Independent States said in the press release.

For Star-Trek fans this will immediately bring to mind the "replicator" technology.
It will also settle the age old question, which came first the chicken nugget or the egg.

"Scott to bridge, there is some old guy with a southern accent down here tryin' to cross circuit
the food replicator with the warp drive. If he does we'll have chicken nuggets all over the galaxy"

I bet that printer stay sanitary for all of one hour.

Why don't we skip the bs and go straight to making a single food item that you can buy by the brick that has all you need and the exact amount of food a person needs in a day?

In next generations life time we are going to see a push by the gov to eat what they tell you.

Well, JB . . why don't you just get busy producing that brick? Make a few hundred post prototypes and then ***** to the govt about how all the lingering capitalism continues to dangle more attractive choices to the masses. Then you can form your argument for how the govt needs to "push" food choices (your brick I suppose) on the public. Then, the govt and the public can inform you that this has already been happening for the past century or so through numerous methods, not the least of which are agricultural subsidies, allotments, regulations galore, grazing permits, etc. to almost no end, specifically targeting select crops and domestic animals all with the intention to promote participation within the industry (farming, ranching, etc), provide specific forms of quality food for the masses and so on.

What I sense that YOU envision as govt telling people what to eat is simply when the govt provides a very limited number of choices as a result of taking full control of the production (meaning, you think somebody ELSE should produce the brick for you).
