I live in Knox Wyvern... pretty simple. Either find a place as close to market square/downtown as possible start looking west on I-40 from there.

Anything in West Knox is good but the further west you go the more expensive.

North Knox is a mix of old people/blue collar salt of the earth/criminals

South and East Knox are god awful and east Knox is scary. Avoid either areas

I went home and visited East Town Mall for the first time in probably 18-20 years
My nephews and sister in law were like -- NAAAAW -- you don't wanna go in there....so we drove to the parking lot and just looked

what the hell happened?
[[rhetorical question]]
that was the NEW mall

then we went to West town and it was big, beautiful and sexy (like my Les Paul)

I visit Knoxville 2-3 times yearly on foot. West Knoxville looks great, but has no character. None. It's all new.

My favorite part in K-Town is right around Market Square . There's a homeless shelter just north of Magnolia on Broadway, I think. Much ugly stuff happens in that little area near I-40. Over off Jackson Ave sits Barley's Taproom. Saw Works Brewing is also nearby. Love it. It appears investment is flowing in for revitalization.

Is your mom still living in Harrogate?

My brother lives and has lived in knoxville for about 12 years now. Been there probably 40 times. Not a fan. Pretty boring, bland, and not really that much to do. The lakes are fun in the summer though. And it seems relatively cheap and safe. Have no idea what people talk about when they say "beautiful town" (which I've heard 100s of times), as I really don't find anything about it even remotely esthetically pleasing.

I mean I guess its pretty sort of? Don't know about "beautiful".

T-B is a cavernous dungeon and Neyland is a 104,000-turd toilet.

Is your mom still living in Harrogate?

Whaddup Austin City Limits

Yep - mom is still living in Harrogate --- started dating one of her deacons at 82 and takes less medication than the health advisor that was assigned to come and check on her -- she can still walk 5-6 miles e day easily and still plays piano and sings her gospel / bluegrass in that "bluesy" kind of ..... "that ain't the normal old white church lady sound"....she plays like someone who would have sat in the studio with the Stones and I think she still plays 4or 5 instruments......hell, I think she STARTED SMOKING this past year too......oh well

appreciate all the input
just got a call about 30 min's ago and TVA wants me to come up - possibly as early as Friday but certainly by next week

Going to get the in person interview --- and damnit, that's just where I WIN

starting to look like I'm going to be a Knoxville resident

(and my wife is staying here to continue working on her photo studio .... so.....what could go wrong?)

I'm from Claiborne Co and grew up "doing things" in / around and to Norris Lake --- I like Knoxville for sentimental reasons but I always thought when people said it was "BEAUTIFUL" that were kind of including the surrounding region / mountains / thinking about fall ... or something.....it's a very pretty REGION to me but I agree that KX itself isn't exactly......Santa Barbara (or even Hanna Barbara)

Great stuff. Glad to hear about your mom. I visited the area for roughly 2 weeks over this past Thanksgiving. Had a good time.

If you are going to work for TVA downtown, you might give the Market Square area a serious look. You'd live within walking distance of your job. I like Fountain City, too.

Knoxville, like any other place, has good and bad points. In my opinion, revitalization has been slower downtown than other cities I've visited. Anymore, when I visit, I fly into Atlanta, ride the MARTA up to Garnett station and bus up to K-Town. Afterwards, I'll usually spend 8 hours or so hiking around Old Town before picking up a rental car. Heh, last time I hiked over to Kroger on Broadway.

That's true. The area with the Smokies, the lakes, the river through town, is what makes it "beautiful".

The Old City used to be a pretty cool place.

Barley's is still there, I think.

Used to be a place called Manhattan's that was great, but I think it's gone.

Fiction, Blue Cats, and Tonic were awesome places to party.

Got the invite today to come up next Wed and have a sit down with some of their team members
Going to have the face to face in Chattanooga though -- which I know nothing about

The position's in Knoxville for sure though (which I prefer)

Everything seems to point to either downtown or save a little money and move westward a bit - too early to do the #'s - but -- can anyone tell me what the traffic is like during peak hours coming in from the West?

Are we talking about daily bumper to bumper / slow and go type traffic?
