The coaches must think Boom is staying if they are really telling Koback that.

Boom is not going to be drafted. I am not sure who is telling and who is saying what. Boom is a good college player who is injury prone, he is not an every down back. Haven't seen him catch the ball or return punts etc.. like a Sproles or traditional scat back. Running backs are the least drafted position in NFL now. He will not be drafted, he may make a team, he may be undrafted free agent who signs.

This is crazy to think that this guy is going to be a high draft pick, No disrespect to him because I like him and he plays hard and is pretty tough buy for people to tell him he needs to go or will go are wrong.

For boom to find a spot in the NFL he has to be able to catch the ball out Of backfield. Needs to be a third down back, and we don't trust him in bypass protection, why would NFL teams

I love boom, but his weakness, 8"is exactly what he is going to be needed to do at next level.

Hasn't shown he can catch the ball, doesn't block particularly well, is small, has been injury prone and has a tendency to fumble. While I like him and think he's really good for UK, no way he gets drafted after this year. The argument could be made he's not even been the best back on UK's team this year. I think he comes back for another year.

Being a really good back in college , does not necessarily mean your going to be a good back in the pros.

Snell looks more like a pro back! He may end up as one of the top 5 backs we have ever had!

Boom does need to add something to his game beyond "shake and bake" before going pro. Even if he is prepared to accept free agency, he will not succeed in free agency unless he demonstrates pass blocking and receiving skills consistent with the demands of the pro game, and more consistent commitment to turning the carry downhill. I am not sure he is there right now. It would be a shame for him to false start. I think another dedicated year with Coach Gran would improve his stock (even as a free agent) a lot, and might even help him rise to actually being drafted. Let's face it, being drafted at all is a big deal for RB's these days.

He has looked better this season with the pass blocking, in my opinion, but still disappointing at times.

The big question mark is receiving, and I cannot decide exactly why none of our backs seem to see much use in the screen game or as outlet receivers. Are they inept receivers, or simply being used in protection too much?

Do you think we lose Boom to the NFL?

Huge difference in a guy coming out early in the NBA and the NFL for instance. NBA can hide you at the end of the bench or in the D league. NFL expects the player to contribute and win NOW. Don't think Williams can do that.

People of this thread: I don't think anyone expects Boom to be an every down back in the NFL. The problem is this: he has a fringe set of NFL skills, and all running backs do is age and get hurt. A Senior year of college just has him age another year and gives him more chances to get hurt. Going now, even undrafted, probably represents his best chance to catch on to a roster. He will be strictly a kick off specialist, perhaps a punt returner, and if he can learn to catch a pass, a third down back. He is not going up the gut on 1st and 2nd. I think he probably knows as well that his career will likely be short, but this is his best chance to ever get paid for playing football.

I think Boom could get drafted. There are RBs worse than him who get drafted lol. No, he won't be a high draft pick. But he could be a 5-7 round pick. That said I think he comes back anyway so it won't matter.

What running back in the NFL on any of the 32 teams is an 'every down back'? Most of you people need to get out of the 1980's & 1990's, the NFL is no longer line up in the I & hand it to Emmett Smith or Barry Sanders or Curtis Martin 25 to 30 times. Every NFL team is shotgun spread 75% of the time, nobody gives all rushing attempts to 1 back it is spread over 2 or 3 guys per team. For goodness sake Derek Henry was all-world & Heisman winner & he goes to the NFL & isnt a 1st rounder & is only sharing the load on his team.

BACK ON TOPIC:
even with the graduation of Kemp & likely (IMO along with many others) early entry by Boom, our RB depth will be just fine in 2017. But I would not be surprised after Boom makes it official we try and sign someone else.

A lot of teams have 6-7 RB on the squad.

We would have

Rose (unknown but potential is their)
Snell (Great back)
Koback (Broke leg might have to redshirt to be 100%)
King (very little production, too small)
Boom Williams (might test pro waters after this year)

walk on level
William Mahone

How many of you guys would want to walk into next season with only 1 sure fire decent back and everything else is unknown.
An injury and your in trouble, 2 injuries and the ground game stalls out. With Snells physical style he is bound to get dinged up a time or 2. Koback has a broke leg and needs time, Boom is 50/50 on being here next season, King is too small to get many carries and clearly is not playing right now. We have Snell and Rose right now that we can count on and need another back as the playing time is their for him.

I personally like Morgan Ellison out of Ohio, Todd Sibley is another back out of Ohio we could try and take away from Pittsburg since he is teammates with Clark and they are reportedly very good friends. Sibley is just out of 4 star range on Rivals but is a 4 star on every other recruiting service. After watching Ellison's videos of this season I think he is the better runner. But can't go wrong with either one.
Would be nice to get in on Eno Benjamin or Anthony Davis but those are long shots.

You did not make very good points. You just said even all world henry wasnt a first rd pick. That is everybodies point why would Boom leave if he will not be drafted. And yes the nfl uses multiple backs. Usually having one bell cow and a third down guy who catches passes. Which one is Boom?

Does anyone know how his recovery from the broken leg is going? I agree with BleedingBlue. He may need the redshirt to fully get back to 100%.
