Saw a blurb on another board (not Rivals) that Kobe Smith is going to enroll at USC. Has anyone here heard the same thing?

Disappointing if true, hopefully Stoops and staff are working the phones, iPhones, etc to recruit some other DTs.

Yes he is enrolling at USC on Friday, even though he has never visited the Gamecocks.

This sounds as fishy as anything I have ever heard. He was a solid commit to us for months and now, without ever visiting USCjr, he is going to go there. I guess all their recruits got a bonus when Spurrier left

Welp, wish him well. Sorry he has to play for head coach Will Muschamp.

I think UK backed off for medical issues as to immediate enrollment. Smith wanted to start now and USC desperate for some quality recruits.

Usually I don't buy the "UK cooled on the kid" story that's sometimes put out there; but I don't see any other plausible explanation here. He was all set to come, then backs out, says its due to some academic issue, then enrolls in the other school he was interested in without even a visit.

Geez - I wonder what could have happened to cau$e $mith to flip to U$C? $omething is very $trange about the whole $ituation. I'm gue$$ing U$C ha$ a$$ured him that they won't attempt to delay hi$ enrollment due to hi$ injury, $urgery, and $ub$equent rehab.

I'm biased, but I think Smith is making the wrong decision in more ways than one. Oh well - best of luck of him.

In all the "UK backed off" nonsense is the signed grant in aid. If he wanted to come to UK, and wanted to enroll early, he could have. UK sent him aid papers, he signed them, UK is obligated to provide him a full athletic scholarship for 1 year if he chose to enroll. He could have been pushed away from doing that, told he wouldn't have a scholarship or a roster spot after his first season, but there's nothing the staff could have done to keep him out this year.

And?

That does not refute a scenario where his injury and inability to practice this spring changed the staff's perception. We can speculate until the cows come home. He is at USC. Time to move on (something that rarely happens here).

His injury and inability to practice this spring might have changed the staff's perception. Makes no difference. The staff didn't have the ability to back off. If Smith wanted to be at UK he would be here. He wanted to be at USC. God bless and good luck to him.

Has anyone debated that? I said that in a post a few days ago. The relevance now is nil.
