Kudos to Ole Miss for not winning at all cost

Conventional wisdom dictated that Ole Miss just eat sh*t and let Lane be in the driver's seat for this whole decision. Let him coach in the playoff until Ole Miss loses and then go to their (former) division rival the next day. After all, he's Lane Kiffin and you're just Ole Miss. They could have sold their souls for a couple CFP wins, sacrificing any institutional integrity and dignity in the process. I applaud them for prioritizing the program above Lane's own personal ambitions. Even with Lane, they weren't going to win the whole thing. Most people can't even recall off the top of their head the national title winner from 3 years ago, much less who finished 7th or 8th or whatever. Definitely not worth prostituting your program for someone like Lane Kiffin.

On another note, I know the system is currently broken with the early signing period and the portal timing, but that does not exonerate Lane for being a total d*ck about the process. He's 50 years old and behaves less maturely than my 6 year old son. Ole Miss didn't let him have his way, so he's gonna throw a tantrum and cause as much chaos as possible for them. No different than a toddler pitching a fit in the middle of the store when mommy says "no" to candy.

If he wanted to leave for LSU, there was a way to do it gracefully. Leave it to Lane to choose the single most selfish, chaotic way to leave.

And here I thought it was because they weren't "serious about winning".

The messaging on here can be so confusing. :D

If I were Ole Miss, I would let him coach and try to get us a natty. Otherwise, what’s the point? They hired Kiffin, so, did they not know what they were getting?

I've decided that's entirely dependent upon whom you ask - just read this board over the last 24 hours.
Asking and hoping for a serious investment in winning does not necessitate selling your soul and your dignity.

I’ve seen nothing on this board that suggests we should sacrifice our dignity. At least in sake of winning. I think we are sacrificing our dignity by retaining our coach.

I don't know if there is a right answer here. OM issuing the ultimatum was an unprecedented move, I kind of like it, and I think I understand why they did it. At the same time it never seemed a good move, Kiffin had all the leverage. They likely weren't winning this thing with him but now they probably bounce in the first round. They also would not have been there without him. But they AD & Chancellor did what they thought was best for the program just like Kiffin is doing what he thinks is best for him and that is their responsibility. They have to look at matters beyond just this season.

From Kiffin's perspective, historically LSU is a better job. But they just went through an experience where they made a big name higher, grabbing him from a place where he was having plenty of success and they just fired him. Kiffin was building OM into a winner, now he's got to go to a much more high pressure situation and win quickly, and win "biggly". He has to pull in SEC & National Titles or they'll fire him too. In the day and age of the portal and NIL I believe he likely would have had about the same chances at OM as LSU to do all of that because what has mattered and been true historically regarding coaching jobs has changed rapidly. I've long been in the college football minority and like Kiffin, don't see this necessarily going well for him.

No brainer to not let him coach the team in the playoffs if he's accepted another job. Insulting to the players if he was allowed to still coach.

Sounds like you disagree with those who advocate for bringing in Petrino - or maybe you didn't see those posts?

And I guess we'll need to ask those who keep repeating the "serious about winning" mantra without specifics as to what that entails to them.

That's a little different. He was taking a HC job, not bending over and spraying diarrhea on all of his players and fellow coaches.

On the other hand, while I respect Ole Miss for not ceding their dignity to Lane, they knew Lane's history and what they were signing up for when they hired him.

Like marrying the girl who cheated on her husband with you. You shouldn't be surprised when she cheats on you.

Ole Miss knew what they were getting when they hired him, they sold their souls to win. As lousy of a human being as Kiffin is, everyone knew this day would come including Ole Miss.

You cant get in bed with a known mother ****** and then have a reason to be mad later on when hes finally a mother ****** to you too. He was never your forever coach, it was just your turn with him.

I hope LSU fires him in a few years, especially now that theres no Nick Saban to rescue him and put him into the coaching rehab program.

I have no problem with winning at all cost. Give me Urban Meyer, Art Briles, Bobby Petrino, DJ Durkin, & any other sleaze bag it takes to make the Cocks a consistent winner year in, year out.
