Baker for one more year...no perceivable replacement for 2017?

Bring it young man...
Hell, we're the Statue of Liberty of CFB for taking other peoples cast offs.

We're the freakin' Oakland Raiders of CFB.

Nope, all kidding aside...if you want to excel, OU is your team.

Talk to coach and see what he's got to say about that thing.
Welcome to the good guys. :D

Sounds good to me!! Kid has a ton of talent for Riley to work with.

Guy's, he has to sit out a year if he transfers to D1 school............
That's why OU is one of his possibly destination schools.

"Ideally, he said, he'd like to transfer to a Power 5 conference program that would have a QB who will be a senior in 2016 so he'd be able to compete for an open job in 2017 when he becomes eligible. One school that certainly fits that profile is Oklahoma, where junior Baker Mayfield has transferred into OU and became a star."

Texas should offer to pay for Allen's education and a seat on their bench. That would be a nice Christmas gift for A&M.

So the question I have is, why is he wanting to transfer? 2,210 yards, 17 TDs and 5 INTs. Was he replaced in mid-season, similar to Baker? If he can play, and it looks like he can, let's bring him on board.

Mayfield may be graduating, that would be the only way he can play next season.

Allen has a girlfriend that attends Arizona, hearing that he may be transferring there.

He would have to sit because he's not a graduate and only a soph.
This. The rule is, if you transfer D1(FBS), you must set out one year.
The exception is, if you have earned your degree, you can transfer without setting out.
Trevor is getting his degree this month.
He will be eligible to transfer for the Spring semester, participate in Spring Drills and play the 2016 season.

Austin Kendall will be on campus for spring ball. He might have a little to say about all this
At first glance, 2016 and beyond looks like this:
Mayfield starts (call me Capt. Obvious)
Cody Thomas backs up Mayfield....at least at the start of spring drills.
Austin Kendall redshirts....maybe. He graduates early and will be available for spring drills.
Connor McGinnis becomes eligible as a redshirt freshman, but he has to be considered a real wildcard contributor. He may have some ability but it simply might not be good enough.
Kyle Allen, if he comes to OU, won't play until 2017....but he and/or Kendall could really be special.
Then there's Chris Robison, a 2017 commit from Mesquite, who is said to be a dual threat QB.

Thomas, barring a transfer, will be an important pawn next season backing up Mayfield, but I think he will have to overcome a full year of non-playing "atrophy". His skills may be too diminished to ever be a solid contributor. Playing mop up in 1 or 2 games this season did him no good. Wouldn't surprise me if he concentrated on baseball from here on.

I think this decision to bring him in, providing he wants to should be Riley. He knows what he's looking for. You always risk transfers and recruits not being as open to Lincoln recruiting them.

And in related news some of the maroon Aggies (or is that moron Aggies) are calling for the firing of Sumlin. Welcome to the SEC - I hope the Aggies are enjoying it.

It does require some measured circumspection.
Riley certainly doesn't want to bring in a guy simply because he's had some reps in D1 and risk losing (to transfer) another diamond in the rough that has Sam Bradford potential.

It's a delicate issue.
It must be said though that there are 120 other D1 coaches that would love to have this problem.

OU may have better on campus and committed. If he comes, he'll be fighting to get on the field, I like that competition.

Orangebloods scuttlebutt -- Kyler Murray considering a transfer too. That seems to be a little too much to believe. It will be interesting if it actually happens.

I suspect Riley to have only one more season. Having said this, I also supsect that he'll evaluate what QB can/will give his offense the best chance to get a Championship.

Isn't Mayfield planning on appealing the year of eligibility he lost from tech transfer? I know none of the ncaa rulings go our way but thought that was realistic shot he could be senior in 2017.

He already got an offer this season. South Carolina and North Texas interviewed him. I am hoping he stays at OU and will replace Bob in a year or two.

Mark Andrews TE 6'5, 245 FR 25 17 286 6 16.8 11.4 68.0% 6.7%

Better than Dede or Baxter. The RB's have an inherent advantage as they are mainly swing passes out of the backfield.

Why would Allen have to sit out a year versus Trevor being able to start immediately? Is it all based on a coaches decision?

Trevor will have his degree by the time he might transfer. Allen does not. If you already have your degree, you do not have to sit a year.

I am not sure what Trevor would get out of a transfer other than start at QB somewhere else. Unless you all think different, he is not a NFL talent. If he wants another year of school, he should work on his masters at a place where he knows where and what everything is.

If you've graduated and still have a year of eligibility then you don't have to sit out a year.

If another appeal is going to be made it should wait until mid February 2017. ;)
