Well, I'm home sick today, so I thought I'd get these out. 184 is out, since Brooks didn't go, but everything else stood. Not too shabby, @Sluggo52, 25 out of 27 possible, with @champlion nipping at your heels.

Oh, boy, some of you are going to be kicking yourselves over one of 130 picks this season. @Hlstone, you want to tell them? That's right, after stone being on the Steen bandwagon all season long and telling us that he's going to get it done, Gary finally does get it done, and it bit some of you right square in the tuches.

Acacia (ON3), a mainstay on the podium in most years, finishes 9th, missing the podium by the Steen pick. Seventh and eight place was a tie, after the first two tie-breakers, but by virtue of him running his keyboard more, PSUbluTX (Rivals) takes psueb52 (Rivals) by a hair. Eb was the dual season winner last year. Newcomer (I believe) @Nikko57 (Rivals) finishes in the sixth spot, while @Gumby79 (Rivals) places 5th. GoIowaAwesome nemesis @johnstownsteel (Rivals) finished in the fourth spot.

In the third spot, @Sneedram55 (Rivals) would have finished in the first loser spot, had he picked Steen. But, the most painful one of all, finishing 2nd, by virtue of picking Fischer over Steen, is @dicemen99 (Rivals). If only he could have pulled the trigger for Steen, dice could have overtaken this year's winner, and KYPSW Dual Season Champion, @jbeldingk (ON3).

Congratulations, jbeldingk, you have won bragging rights for a year!! Go tell all your friends, take your significant other out to dinner to celebrate, then go wait by your mailbox for your prize to arrive.

To everyone else, your participation trophies will be arriving about the same time as belding's prize. Don't let it end up in the trash with McDonough's medal. And, be on the lookout over the weekend for the rules for KYPSW B1G contest.

I'd like to thank God, @pawrstlersinpa, and pa-wrestling.com for reminding me that Steen beat Fischer in the 2020 state finals. Bonus points win championships.

Description

The B1G Championships functions as a qualifier tournament for Nationals. The B1G will automatically qualify a certain number of wrestlers per weight class, based on their placing at the B1G Championships. The auto-qualifiers (AQs) will number as follows: 9 @ 125, 133, 141,149, 184, 197, and 285; 10 @ 157; 8 @ 165 and 7 @ 174. In addition, there is a need to determine an extra place finish beyond the AQ at each weight to identify the wrestler that falls one place short of being an AQ, per one of the criteria needed to attain “Bronze Standard” for eligibility to obtain an “at-large” berth to Nationals. Long-story-short, the 9 AQ weights will have placement to 10th, 157 will have placement to 11th, 165 to 9th, and 174 to 8th.

What You Need To Do
For each of the 10 PSU wrestlers competing at the B1G Championships, predict his:
(1) Place Finish, per the placing categories listed below for each weight class; and
(2) Total Number of Bonus Points (to the nearest half-point) scored during the tournament, EXCLUDING matches wrestled to determine 9th place through 11th place.

All predictions must be posted in this thread by 10:00 AM Eastern on Saturday, March 4th.

Placing Categories, By Weight Class

125, 133, 141, 149, 184, 197, 285: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, or “DNP
157: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, or “DNP
165: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or “DNP”
174: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, or “DNP”

*Note: As you can see, there is a minimum of 8 place finishes for each weight class. We essentially predict the placing based on the number of AQs +1 for all weights with at least 8 auto-qualifiers. Beyond that, we predict “DNP” for “does not place”.

Scoring

For each PSU wrestler, you will be awarded “Placement Points” based on your prediction for where the wrestler places in the tournament. You will also be awarded “Bonus Points” based on your predicted number of bonus points scored by the wrestler (excluding extra matches wrestled for 9th-14th place). The scoring structure for Placement Points and Bonus Points are listed below.

Placement Points
30 points for predicting a wrestler's place finish exactly (includes the “DNP” category)
25 points for a prediction being off by 1 place
20 points for a prediction being off by 2 places
15 points for a prediction being off by 3 places
10 points for a prediction being off by 4 places
0 points for a prediction being off by 5 or more places
Note: Any "DNP" finish is considered 1 place away from the final placement position for the weight.

Bonus Points
4 points awarded for predicting a wrestler's bonus point total exactly (to the nearest half-point)
3 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 0.5 points
2 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 1.0 points
1 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 1.5 points
0 points awarded for a prediction that is off by 2.0 or more points
Note: Major Decision = 1.0 bonus points; Tech Fall = 1.5 bonus points; Fall, Medical Forfeit, Injury Default, and Disqualification = 2.0 bonus points.

The maximum attainable score under this system is 340 points. Tiebreaker criteria are (1) most placement points, (2) most “30-point” placement predictions, (3) most “25-point” placement predictions, (4) most “20-point” placement predictions, (5) most “15-point” placement predictions, (6) most “10 point” placement predictions, and (7) most Rivals or 24/7 posts.

Example Predictions/Outcomes/Scoring

Example 1. I predict Wrestler A to finish 5th and score 1.5 bonus points. Wrestler A actually places 1st and scores 2.0 bonus points. I receive 10 Placement Points (1st – 5th = -4 = 10 pts) and 3 Bonus Points (2.0 – 1.5 = 0.5 = 3 pts) for a total of 13 points for my Wrestler A weight class prediction.

Example 2. I predict Wrestler B to finish 9th in a 9 AQ weight class and score 2.0 bonus points. Wrestler B actually places 4th and scores 4.0 bonus points. I receive 0 Placement Points (4th – 9th = -5 = 0 pts) and 0 Bonus Points (4.0 – 2.0 = 2.0 = 0 pts) for a total of 0 points for my Wrestler B weight class prediction.

Example 3. I predict Wrestler C to finish “DNP” and score 0.0 bonus points in a weight class with 8 AQ. Wrestler C actually finishes 7th and scores 1.0 bonus points. I receive 20 Placement Points (7th – DNP = 2 = 20 pts) and 2 Bonus Points (1.0 – 0.0 = 1.0 = 2 pts) for a total of 22 points for my Wrestler C weight class prediction.

Example 4. I predict Wrestler D to place 9th and score 1.5 bonus points. Wrestler D actually withdraws after his first match, does not place in the top 10, and scores 0.0 bonus points. I receive 20 Placement Points (DNP – 9th = 2 = 20 pts) and 1 Bonus Point (0.0 – 1.5 = -1.5 = 1 pt) for a total of 21 points for my Wrestler D weight class prediction.

I will post a link to B1G pre-seeds when they are announced and actual seeds and brackets when they become available.

Again, all predictions must be posted in this thread by 10:00 AM Eastern on Saturday, March 4th.

Although these scores will be compiled with the Dual Season and Nationals scores to crown an overall season champion, all are welcome to join this particular event to be crowned B1G champion. Good luck!

Yooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Pay attention!!!!!

Heinselman is out of the post-season, which changes 125.

125 is now an 8 auto-qualifier weight, with Heinselman out for the post-season. Change your picks accordingly. Most everyone had Steen at DNP, but DNP is now the 10-spot, instead of the 9-spot.

Here are the B1G results, sort of. These are the results, without Wrestlestat. As the players on the Rivals board know, Iowa guest, @jmadden1998, ran the whole tournament through Wrestlestat. I took those results, as if Wrestlestat had played KYPSW B1G with us. And, you'll never guess what. Wrestlestat would have taken home the bronze medal, finishing third.

Perennial Wrestlestat hater, @Psugo823, on the other hand, finished 41st.

So, without WS being involved, @nerfstate finishes atop the podium for B1G. @johnstownsteel, with lots of aid from his fellow competitors, finishes in the second spot, @GogglesPaizano takes home the bronze.

Congrats, all!

KYPSW Nationals Edition, 2023

Here it is, the third and final installment of the 2022-23 Know Your Penn State Wrestlers competition. Nationals! We will crown an NCAA Tournament Champion, and then an Overall KYPSW 2022-23 Champion. 900 points are available for this competition.

(2) Cumulative bonus points scored, to the nearest 0.5 pts

Notes:

- R12 means the wrestler reaches the “Round of 12”, but does not advance.

- R16+ means the wrestler is eliminated from the tournament within the “Round of 16” or earlier.

- All predictions must be posted in this thread by 11:00 AM Eastern on Thursday, March 16th.

Scoring

For each PSU wrestler, you will be awarded “Placement Points” based on your prediction for where the wrestler places in the tournament. You will also be awarded “Bonus Points” based on your predicted number of bonus points scored by the wrestler. The scoring structure for Placement Points and Bonus Points are listed below.

Apologies for taking so long to get these results out. I had something else on my mind, and it was awesome.

Here are the tentative results for NCAA. I'll wait for a day or two to hear from you for any errors, before posting the final season tally.

Well, hearing no whining, bitching, moaning, complaining, um, hearing nothing about any errors, the above results are considered complete. Congratulations to @Philflyboy for being the NCAA KYPSW champion!

I know some of you have been waiting to see these results. Some of you have been hoping the sub wouldn't make it back to the pier. But, nevertheless, here are the final standings for KYPSW for 2023. The winner will forever be heralded as KYPSW 2023 Champion!! He can go to the mountain tops to tell the world of his great accomplishments. The mountain tops are a good place to go, as no one else will even know what he's talking about. All here shall ever revere the winner.

On the podium in eighth place is @nerfstate. Actually, isn't eighth place on the floor? Nerf says he's going to go on AJ Ferrari's workout plan and come back awesome next year. Watch out ladies, and shirts, and social media.

In seventh is @johnstownsteel, GoIowaAwesome's favorite poster. I'm sure he'll be right over there this morning to let them know, and they will ban him again.

Sikth (some of you will get that) place goes to @tomsc. Tom is one of the returning placewinners from 2021-22, as he was fifth last year.

Fifth place goes to freaking @Acacia. This guy, year in and year out, just gets it done. If someone (hint: @RoarLions1) had all of the data, I think @Acacia might have the most podium finishes. Just gets it done.

Fourth place this year goes to @Random4598375. This was nice progression for him, as he finished just off the podium in ninth last year.

Third place was taken by @Gumby79. This was a nice jump from the 20-spot last year.

Roaring up the leaderboard from the regular season was @loyalandtrue2. I mean, he was in 42nd place following the regular season, but he put together a solid performance at B1Gs, and another solid performance for NCAA to land the #2.

And, in the number one spot, last year's third place finisher, @Philflyboy. He's another guy that jumped up the leaderboard, but he did waited until NCAA to show who's boss. In 20th after the regular season, he barely qualified for the Big Dance, but made the most of his bracket and jumped to the #1 spot. Congratulations, @Philflyboy, you are the 2023 KYPSW Champion.

And, for the award that must be given, but no one wants, the Minkel. This one is given to the player that faithfully played every dual, B1G and NCAA, but just came up short. Named after a coach who always seemed to come up short, too, this year's Minkel Award goes to @BigFella235. Congratulations, and sorry, BigFella.

Thanks for playing! And, as always, go wait by your mailboxes for your prizes to show up. The weather looks to be improving, so it might not be bad out there for a little while.
