I get the attraction people have with beaches but it just isn't me. If I am going to be near the water, I want to be in the water. The ocean is fun for a while but it turns into work pretty quickly. Those waves are relentless A+ for scenery so I get it.
I love the lake and it's way easier to deal with than the ocean. Party time is better than at the ocean.
All things considered, I would just prefer a nice pool. Get in. Stretch out. Find the exact right depth to stand at and drink your drink.

It's hard to beat sitting on a beach and playing in the waves. Its great for kids of all ages. Also, endless bikinis and babes to be found.

But still, probably picking a lake. I find it's better for boating, tubing and kayaking.. and if you find the right lakes, they are just as beautiful as any ocean is. I also find "lake people" to be much more pleasant than "ocean people". There's a reason it's called Jersey Shore..

Pool is neccesary on hot days, as it's by far the best way to stay cool.

We've got a pool and a pond... the pond would be good for you.

I prefer a beautiful ocean beach. Vacationed on Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos a few years ago. One of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Beach volleyball, snorkeling, or just sitting with drink in hand. Loved every minute of it.

Cozumel, St Thomas, and DR were damn near as nice.

We're 2.5 miles off the ocean. This isn't a big tourist spot, so the beaches aren't very crowded. We're out here almost every day, weather permitting. We read, nap, surf fish, take walks, do some beach combing. Our condo association has a nice pool. In the 4 years we've been here, we've been in it maybe a dozen times or so. Mostly with our granddaughters who still want to get in even after a day at the beach. There's usually no one in it, except for an occasional lap swimmer or in the mornings when there are some ladies who do water aerobics.

If I could make Lake Cumberland a year round 80-85 degree lake it would be my perfect spot.
We live 30 minutes from LC and have a pontoon docked there. I enjoy the lake but my wife loves it. It is safe to say she goes into a deep depression from October until May. 🤣

Yeah, it is interesting because everyone considers either last weekend or this coming weekend (poker run) as the last weekends they boat. Hell I am down there in sweatshirts and toboggans if it isn't freezing consistently yet. In alot of ways September and October are the best weekends on the lake.

Pool>Ocean>Lake. Lakes creep me out. I’ll only go in the ocean about chest deep. Love pools.

1. Pool - I like owning a pool. It's clean and very convenient. I'd like to have one no matter where I live.

2. Lake - fishing, boating, camp/hike along the edge.

3. Ocean - fun to visit......but I wouldn't want to live on one. Sand gets everywhere and most places are waaay too crowded. In fact, if I see more than 5-10 people who are not my family or friends as far as the eye can see, it's too crowded for me.

Lived at the ocean. Had a pool. Having both is the best. A good mountain lake is nice too but if I had to pick one it’s the ocean. Beach lifestyle is where it’s at.

The thing with swimming in a lake.. because I totally get the creepiness and how gross they can feel.. you have to find lakes with shallow bays. Many of the lakes in the ADKs have 1 or 2 areas where you can walk, on sand you can see, for a hundred feet out.

Some of my family has property on Sandy Bay in Lake George, NY. It's hard to tell, but all the light colored water below and to the left, only goes to about 8 feet deep, and much of it is 5 feet or less.. hence why boats are moored there.

I live about 10 minutes from Fort Myers beach and about 15 minutes from Sanibel. At our summer house in WNC I live about 30 minutes from Lake James, and in my opinion
Lake >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ocean >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Pool

I grew up boating on rivers and lakes, and I like this best. Did water skiing, fishing, exploring, partying, etc. every summer on house boats, ski boats, and fishing boats. Did some sailing and fishing on the ocean and that was fun too. Beaches are fun for a few hours, but I've got to have a boat to get out on the water away from the poors. Pools are chemically enhanced piss buckets.

If you’re not going to live ON the beach or lake a pool is way better. Don’t have to pack kids and things in a car to get there, house is ten feet away and it can be warmed.

I’ve lived on the ocean and folks live on a lake, I’ve had a pool. I’ll take the ease and convenience of a pool and only having the people you want there. Plus, set up a tv and bar area, why do you want to go anywhere?

A house on the ocean with a pool is the perfect setup though.

Not salt pools. And who cares if people piss in it, they piss in the ocean and lake too.

None of the above. I'd rather relax in the comfort of my home than be outside laying around. If I'm outside I'd rather be sight seeing.

There is a reason that no one ever sold audio tapes, CD's, records or posted videos of the comforting sounds of a pool or a lake. The sound of the ocean waves coming in at night is second to none. One of the most soothing sounds in the world. If you like to swim, you can. If you like to fish, you can. If you like to go boating, you can. If you like to surf, you can. If you like to make love under a full moon with the romantic sounds of the waves, you can...just make sure no one else is around. LOL

Ocean 100% of the time. That being said, if you can find a hotel (or a house for that matter) with an ocean view and a poolside bar beside a nice pool, you have the best of both worlds.

Edited to add: I'm not trying to **** on lakes. I have had a ton of fun at lakes. Lakes are great. They just come in third based on the poll options, IMO. Really, there is no such thing as bad bodies of water. :)

Yes, but that isn't when you're in the water. The ocean is work. Fricking waves are relentless.

The greatest advantage the pool (as long as it’s your own) has is there’s NO ONE else there but you and yours. No crowds, no idiots, no prep time to get ready to go or clean up afterwards. Pool = Walk out the backdoor and jump right in. Kinda where I am in life atm. My younger and more outgoing years, def go with ocean.

I live 15 miles from the ocean and go maybe 3-5x a year.

Id also like to see the option for “River” get some love. CA snowmelt rivers that runoff the sierras is the some of the cleanest and clearest water there is. Can find secluded areas or areas w crowds, waterfalls, swimming holes, natural water slides, beaches, places to jump, raft, fish…so much variety and the plethora of them it’s just hard to ever get bored.

Infinity edge pool with a bar in the middle of it next to the beach/ocean.

Comes with no underwater dinosaurs and booze.....great deal.

This MFer PASTY...

I had always heard this about Kentucky, but just looked it up to confirm:

"The state has more than 1,100 navigable miles (1770 km) of lakes and rivers to explore, which is the second-most in the US, with Alaska coming in the first place."

I don't see how anybody could grow up in Kentucky and still be scared of getting in the water. Enjoying the waterways is a natural part of life in this state.

What did you soy boys do, stay home playing video games?
Yeah I've won quite a few bets in Key West on which state has more miles of shoreline, Florida or Kentucky. Everyone picks Florida because why wouldn't you?

And you guys posting pics of beautiful hotel pools by the ocean...that's great, you get that for a week a year. So I'll definitely take a pool for 7 months a year over that hotel pool for a week. Think you all are missing the point.

1 - Ocean, the OP complained about the waves, but to me that is one of the best parts. I also just love the sounds (of the crashing waves).

2 - Pool, before divorce we had one, and it was good. Going salt-water made the maintenance less for me. Even something serene about fishing out leaves and pine needles (even though I'd rather not do it)

3 - Lake, basically a giant pool, that's a lot dirtier, and you can't see the snakes in it (yes, would occasionally get those in the pool too, but you could see them). I guess if you have a boat or jet ski then that elevates the Lake a lot. But that expensive investment wasn't part of the original question (it wasn't "lake + boat").

That is how I interpretted it though, a house "ON the beach (ocean), but no pool", or the same house "ON a lake, but no pool", or the same house "WITH a pool".

Nope get plenty of sun. Just dont need to be by or in a body of water to do it. It's boring to me. Plus I have a screwed up back and laying around and swimming is just not my thing anymore. Maybe it's partially from growing up in a family that never went anywhere on vacation. The only time I got to go to the beach or a lake was if another relative invited me.
