The latest, in a seemingly endless string of Taylor Sheridan TV shows.

I quit watching Yellowstone after the 3rd season. Not that I hated, but I just kind of lost interest.

I've watched the first 4 episodes of Landman. Billy Bob is doing "Billy Bob", Don Draper quit the ad game and bought an oil company, and all women in Texas are developmentally stunted, ie. emotional middle schoolers.

Like Yellowstone though, it's entertaining to a point, but just like the food at Fazoli's, it's all the same thing, it's just a different shape.

Sheridan is starting to get on my nerves.
Seems like every week there's some new extraordinary stupid ****.

Wife and I watch Landman every week. Enjoyable. Missed last two weeks because of return trip to Germany.

Angela Norris is high-maintenance as hell. My wife knows the industry fairly well. Says lots of realism contained within the series.

I think that: (background research on the general subject matter, whether it's the oil industry or ranching etc.) is the one thing that Sheridan actually does well.

The lawyer lusting after the minor daughter of his friend/boss is extremely uncomfortable for me.

As is the blatant product placement of Michelob Ultra, and the not subtle intimation that it can cure alcoholism. That seems well, irresponsible. LOL (maybe the point is to demonstrate that absudity and I just don't get it)

See what you mean, but honestly I believe lawyer Nathan appears more annoyed and irritated by the new, not-so-welcome guests. He seems more immersed in his work than playing a "dirty old man". No doubt, Nathan gets his share of eye-candy.

When he said this is a liability time bomb, my actual first thought was that he was a convicted sex offender. LOL

In retrospect, the fact that he can still practice law rules that out, but you know, at first blush.

I can't recall his name, but the other guy that lives in the house. The only one that actually appears to work for a living (LOL) He cracked me up during the dinner scene. Everyone else is drama out the ***, and old dude is just powering down that "spaghetti" And when he knew he was going to be asked to "share" about his day, he couldn't get that beer up to his mouth fast enough. He's become my favorite character. LOL

I also enjoyed Hamm's response to the guy that wanted to play through, ON A PAR THREE. LOL (and, FYI I've never been slowed down by a golfer that is walking the course. Those guys don't f*** around. They just take care of business, and move on. It's the flotilla of middle-aged men, riding single in their golf carts that are ALWAYS the problem)

Dale Bradley (James Jordan) is the other roommate. Norris' daughter nearly changed his sex I believe in episode 3 or 4.

The "bathroom door lock" lecture by BB was pretty good. LOL

I wonder when the catfight between BB's wife, and the female lawyer will happen. Hopefully it's by the pool. LOL

I love Billy Bob Thornton. Have heard it’s amazing. I’ll have to do a trial of whatever streaming platform it’s on.

His accent/voice in this is a cross between Jock Ewing( Jim Davis) and Sam Elliott. Very in keeping with the character

Watching Landman on the heels of the latest Yellowstone episode (with Taylor Sheridan's strip poker scene), I kind of wonder if TS is just amusing himself at this point.

Billy Bob is fantastic, and the thing I enjoy most about Landman are the sequences that show how the industry works, with the leases, drilling rights, confrontations, etc. Need more of that.

For anyone interested in that part of the show, before coal died in eky it was the exact same and had land men or agents as well. The workers were different but much of the rest the same.

Before the premier, I'm going to go back and run thru the first season again, to refresh everything. A show like that, I'm sure I've forgotten some details in the THREE YEAR GAP. lol


HOLY F**K, I just watched the trailer. That looks pretty awesome.

Loved Lioness on Paramount +. Second season just finished. Another Taylor Sheridan but a great cast.

Can’t argue with that. He also has Mayor of Kingstown which I liked plus the Yellowstone prequels.

Landman is great!! I understand why Taylor gave up on Yellowstone and moved to Landman. I'm a fan of Yellowstone but I'm ready to become a landman after 5 episodes.

Re-watched E5 last night after Cards/Cats. Billy Bob has his hands full.

E6 should drop today. Look forward to it.

Yeah, that's one of my issues with Sheridan's writing; it's thin soup that serves only to facilitate snappy dialogue, and a lot of revenge porn beatings.


BUT, he IS pretty good at snappy dialogue and revenge porn. And also, as I mentioned before; getting the background and technical stuff stone cold.

Landman has other stuff going for it though, that Yellowstone didn't. John Dutton was such an unlikable monster that it was hard to connect with him. Billy Bob's character, while harsh, seems to have some self-awareness, and good intentions. Not to mention the fact, BB is light years better as an actor than Costner.

When he was sitting in Monty Miller's "mansion", the simmering contempt in his gut, as he looked at the decadence, the atrocious modern art, the out of touch with reality party people (a little reminiscent of the empty-headed, idle rich in The Great Gatsby) juxtaposed with his having to deal with the ugly side of what finances all of that, was palpable, without hardly saying a word.

Knowing how to skirt that line takes some serious acting chops.

And knowing the only difference between he and Monty was timing. Had Tommy not gone all in right before covid and oil fell, he would be enjoying such opulence. Instead hes still scrapping.

Damn, I somehow missed that back story. Might need to go back and rewatch the early episodes.

I'm not sure that would have even appealed to him, based on his character. I don't think he cares much for Midland (when he says, essentially, we don't belong here, this isn't our home, we just WORK here) (paraphrasing)

Iirc it was the wife telling the lady lawyer the story after he left the table to avoid the topic.

Also iirc monty lives in dallas. Or maybe i just deduced that from it being a metro about 3-4 hours away from Midland. Not sure they ever said specifically.

Tommy mentioned Midland wasnt home to any of them but its hard to gauge if he likes it or not. I actually think he does because his character needs chaos in his life which explains his love for the crazy woman. All jmo.

Yeah, you're right, Monty lives in Dallas. I used to live near the Permian Basin/Midland/Odessa and Midland is the more affluent of the two.

Brain hiccup.

I really enjoyed living in that area. I say that I lived NEAR Midland/Odessa, but it was actually San Angelo, which is an hour and a half away, but in Texas, that qualifies as NEAR. LOL

If I hadn't met my second wife, I had planned on moving back there when I retired. I like Kentucky, but Texas is by far my favorite place I ever lived.
