Dean Smith, who was the big reason for the shot clock, brought his fabled four-corner offense to McGaw Hall in 1978. They didn't need the four corners as they romped to a 97-67 victory. This game was significant for NU's future hoops history. The first person who can say why earns a drink from FloridaAlum.

The answer is Jim Stack, the best pure outside shooter (my opinion) I have seen at NU, tore his ACL midway through the game. This turned out to be a blessing in the long run because as a fifth-year senior he led NU to its first postseason (1983 NIT) in history. This was Stack's second game and he had already scored 30 points by this point. I believe the ACL tear can be attributed to a lot of dust on the floor created by all the fans crossing the old dirt indoor track. They always had to wet mop the floor before the second half.

Stack might be the toughest, grittiest player who has ever played for NU. He added almost two inches between his freshman and sophomore year. He was a good shooter. I've not seen a three point shooter like Falzon. Quick release, pure stroke, plenty of height on the shot.

The mechanics of Shurna's release were excellent, he just had a crazy low release point which he's now adjusted out of.

A memory from the Dark Ages of NU athletics. They spent all their money that year widening the moat in the west lot.

That game was a "homecoming" game for Jeff Wolf. Apparently, Evanston was as close to Kohler Wisconsin as UNC could get. There were a bunch of fans from Wisconsin there.
