Whew. Holding my breath on every inbounds pass. 2 turns. Got time to fix it. Easy. Glad we experienced it in a win.
As much as we give Cal ****, that is one thing we did not have a problem with. He simply brought a big down and threw the ball into him. I think with our bigs, that would have been an easy solution.Came away encouraged from the game yesterday as a whole…BUT…this was very frustrating. 1. The inability of our guards to hold their guy off and get a catch and 2. No type of different action all game from Pope. He obviously didn’t think it was a huge concern, but I’m like you, was holding my breath every inbound.

Not my memory. Seems Cal had no inbounds or inbound defense strategies. Numerous teams scored on us inbounding the ballAs much as we give Cal ****, that is one thing we did not have a problem with. What a troll like topic.
Coached a hell of a game yesterday
We need to spend time in practice on how to attack full-court pressure. We looked clueless and foolish at times.Whew. Holding my breath on every inbounds pass. 2 turns. Got time to fix it. Easy. Glad we experienced it in a win.
They fronted on inbounds. We did not drive to baseline and then release. Easy stuff.Never seen trying to lob every pass inbound over the top of defense, which St Johns was very good at the first half. A simple pick and roll, or bringing a big down, anything would be better then throwing a lob, up for grabs. Looked like a junior high team trying to get the ball in bounds.

It doesn't take that long to explain and practice press offense, inbounds under basket, inbounds on sideline, various defenses, etc ... There is a pre-season and regular practice during the season. I coached middle school and we practice 90 minutes a week and practiced all of those things ... and more. Plus, Pope has a staff of coaches to help. They, as any team should, be prepared for just about anything that an opponent can show you. We're talking about coaches getting paid ridiculous amounts of money to prepare teams for games. It is their job, not a hobby.I agree to a point. Most teams just don't do it anymore. At least not enough to spend a decent amount of time on it.
But we had a week to prep for a Pitino team. A guy WELL KNOWN for doing it. And our coach is a Pitino disciple. It was a bit frustrating to see it bother us as much as it did.
We attacked it decently at times, but the inbounding was rage inducing.
This thread was a fly bye for you. The point was us inbounding the ball, not guarding the inbounder. Not my memory. Seems Cal had no inbounds or inbound defense strategies. Numerous teams scored on us inbounding the ball
Either way, not a Cal strength. This thread was a fly bye for you. The point was us inbounding the ball, not guarding the inbounder.
Or the football style guys lined up approach. Set a screen, he’ll set a double screen somethingNot sure why more coach's don't take advantage of the pass to an out of bounds team mate, it always seams to work, and confuses the defense, but you don't see it used much.
