Let's see, 1st and goal from about the 2-yard line. I've got an idea...

That was completely on Sellers. He could have easily thrown the ball away.

I'm not sure Sellers is the sharpest tool in the shed.
Agree with you on the Sellers stuff. But I still would've not gone shotgun in that situation. Put in the heaviest package you can, go under center, and punch the dang thing in.

let's line up in the shotgun and take a 20-yard sack! Fire them all!!!!!!!!! I'm so sick of this trainwreck crap.
We were under center. I-formation.
Its an epidemic of OCs trying to show how smart they are rather line lining 2 DEs up at FB and running a 240 lb QB right behind em, thats too high schoolish for these super duper smart OCs
This!!

Sellers screwed up, but he didn't call the idiotic play. Line up & sneak it or run it 3 straight times. If you can't get in with that, try some tricky crap on 4th down.

I was screaming after that. No reason to pass. If you can`t punch it in from the 2 on 4 tries you shouldn`t win. I was more upset - and still am - about that call or play that anything. That would have put us up by 9 instead of 5. Was anyone asked about that?

That call showed a total lack of confidence from our coaching staff.

On the face of it, it was a terrible call. Situationally, I can't fault Shula that much. Our longest rush of the game was 7 yards by Sellers. Our OL was getting absolutely destroyed all game. It's about the most outmatched I've ever seen an OL. Complete ineptitude across the board from start to finish. There wasn't a single moment of success for the OL in the entire game. On top of that, none of our backs are the kind to bowl anyone over. They can hit holes, but they aren't power backs. I don't know if the OL opened a single hole all night long. With those factors combined, I can understand the call. Execution was awful.

Momentum point in the game and Shula decides this is is time to deviate from the run left, run right philosophy he is committed to.
Exposes that he was not part of the family tree. Pack his bags and move him out today.

I, too, would like to know if Shame has been asked about this specific call. I also hope one of the "journalists" has the balls to ask Shula at his presser this week.

My initial reaction was the same as many, but our OL was absolutely manhandled the entire game. Yes, ordinarily I would say line up and play smashmouth football from the 2, but we can't do that. None of our backs are bruisers and the OL simply could not open any holes all night long.

Mo Brown was in at FB. We'd have gotten in.

Does anyone actually think we would have been able to run the ball in from the 2 yard line? I, for one, do not.

We should have lined up in the gun and spread the defense out with 4 or 5 receivers.

I do. 4 straight attempts from there with a huge QB & Mo Brown at FB......yeah, we'd have crossed the goal line. Added bonus would have been Matt Fuller at RB.

Have you watched this team run the ball this season? Did you watch this team try to run the ball Saturday night?

Did you see how quickly the Missouri defense was in the backfield on that 1st down play action? If Sellers had handed the ball off the back would have lost 3 yards.

The call wasn't really bad. MO expected a run in the middle, they had the box loaded and brought the house on the snap. Sellers should have thrown the ball away instead of running backwards 10 yards. That sack is fully on Sellers.

Here is what AI said: Just for Fun

Based on current ncaa South Carolina football
statistics - what play should be called on first
and goal at the two yard line.

Best Play Call for South Carolina on 1st-and-Goal at the 2-Yard Line (2025)

Based on South Carolina’s current offensive performance and player stats from the 2025 season, here’s the most strategic play call for a first-and-goal situation at the 2-yard line:

Recommended Play: Power Run with RB Rahsul Faison
Why this works:
Rahsul Faison leads the team in rushing with 135 yards on 27 carries (5.0 yards per carry) and has already scored a touchdown

South Carolina averages 3.2 yards per rush and has shown a preference for ground plays in short-yardage situations

Alternative Options:
Play-Action Pass to TE Brady Hunt: Hunt has 45
receiving yards and is a reliable red-zone target.
A fake run could draw defenders in and open him up

QB Keeper with LaNorris Sellers: Sellers has 48
rushing yards and 1 rushing TD. His mobility adds unpredictability near the goal line

Avoid:
Outside runs: Oscar Adaway III averages 3.9 yards per carry but is less effective in tight spaces.

Fade routes to WRs: While Nyck Harbor has explosive plays, fade routes are lower-percentage in tight coverage.

South Carolina should run a power inside handoff to
Rahsul Faison on first-and-goal at the 2-yard line.
He’s their most efficient rusher and has proven
success in short-yardage. If the defense stacks
the box, a play-action pass to the tight end or a
QB keeper are strong alternatives.

He looked scared.

I haven't seen as much football as others on here, but I've seen a lot. I've seen RBs whiff badly on blocks, make horrible blocking attempts or just get manhandled when trying to block.

I have NEVER seen a player intentionally avoid a block.

There are two options here:
1. He was coach to block like that.
2. He tanked on the play and purposely avoided making the block.

I don't know which of those two options is worse.

I can 100% tell you he’s not coached that way.

What he did, and he did it way more than this play, is dive down and hope the guy trips over him. Less contact and can claim ‘effort’ even though it’s laughable.

Another thing I can 100% tell you; we didn’t have ‘rooms’ in my day, we had film sessions where every play was reviewed and dissected when appropriate, good and bad, with the whole team watching. Unless the staff is just woke or whatever and doesn’t want to hurt feelings, that play and his others wore the buttons OUT on whatever device is used to show the film. I’ll be surprised if he sees the field Saturday but he probably will.

Yeah, I assume he wasn't coached that way but had to throw it out there as a possibility to be fair to the player.

I'm sure you've seen more football than I have, but I honestly have NEVER seen a player do that. It genuinely looks like he's intentionally avoiding contact. Right before he makes contact, he goes down like he'd been shot.
