against a very good LSU defense. I know many people say the Air Raid won't work in the SEC so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Offense moved the ball through the air pretty well. Had minus rushing yards well into the 4th quarter. Seems familiar to UK/Mumme fans? And, good lord, if any of our QBs were back there for TTech, they would've been sacked at least another 4-5 times. That Mahomes kid is a baller but he was scrambling for his life pretty much every down. Not interested in this type of offense at all.

I drew 2 conclusions from that game:

1. Just say no to air raid
2. Texas Tech would get blasted in the SEC.

1. Just say no to air raid

I agree but am afraid this won't deter the 'Mike Leach will win big at UK' crowd.

Mike Leach won't be at UK, and if he did come here, he wouldn't win big. The air raid is an outdated concept. The good offenses make advancements. The air raid is not a new concept. People seen it make its run, they're familiar with it, they know how to stop it. Next.

You are correct, IMHO.

LSU had a good (27th in total defense), but not a great SEC defense. Bama, Florida, Mizzou and Georgia are all ranked in the top 10 in total defense. Vandy had a good defense too (29th).

I will say this, in this day and age, I don't think that it is wise to attempt to run an Air Raid offense without a very quick, mobile QB.

I don't see how this matchup shows anything but a huge diff in talent. LSU was talked in terms of nat champ possibilities this year. TT didn't even get talked about possibly winning it's conference. result not a surprise and hardly an indictment of any style of play. close game til the int.

They were 4-5 in the Big12. They did win at Arkansas, so I'd say about the same as they did in their own conference.

Agree with you EXCEPT many posters believe that UK's talent deficit could/should be made up for with an 'exciting/Air Raid' offense. This game (and many others in the Mumme Era) proves to me that the Air Raid scheme does NOT make up for a talent deficit.

I think an argument could be made that a triple option, ala Navy, does a better job of overcoming a talent deficit. Even with a month or so to prepare, Navy ran all over Pittsburgh (and had a couple other pretty good wins along the way). Don't want UK to go exclusively to the TO but would definitely welcome some of its running game concepts to make us tougher to prepare for. The draw play from the shotgun is not fooling anyone anymore. If your OL isn't blowing people up, it doesn't work. If your OL IS blowing people up, pretty much any play will work.
