Would be pretty sweet to have Tre for year 2, and have Lewis here learning the ropes of the Duke system. Kid is a gonna be a monster in 18 months. And FWIW, Kira Lewis just turned 18 two days ago. Super young and super talented. I want him. Hope K and the staff make him a high priority.

The guy is an amazing defender. His game is VERY similar to Tre's. Hound the ball on D, not much of a jumper on offense.
Would be great for him to come in and learn from Tre.

He averaged 31 minutes a game last year. Doubt he will go anywhere and sit. He will want starter’s minutes.

Except there's the whole NCAA rule where transfers are required to sit for a year... In this hypothetical, Tre would leave after his sophomore year, and Kira Lewis would be the starter in 2021.

Is there any chance that he could get a waiver so that he would not have to sit out a year?

From what I have been hearing and reading, it's not too hard to get one these days. I believe there has been an instance where one was granted for this very reason, maybe someone with more knowledge can add to that.

So why couldn't he and Tre play together if he gets his waiver? Siva and Russ Smith did it. Hell last time we on a championship we had 2 point guards on the floor. Lewis looks like a pretty good shooter. I think Tre will get a little better as well. This combo would definitely work

It would work with Ellis hopefully embracing his role getting 14-15 minutes a game and AOC/Jordan getting mop up time. I like having 2 pgs especially if they drive and kick. Jordan and AOC seldom drove to the basket.

One other variable - Barnes just took the UCLA job so most likely his recruits at UT will have the chance to reopen their recruiting. We were on Josiah James (https://247sports.com/Player/Josiah-Jordan-James-45572919/) for a while. Not sure if Duke would consider him given Coach K came out and said he was misled by two recruits (including James), but just throwing it out there.
I didn't see where Coach had said that but I'm guessing James will probably follow Barnes to UCLA. If we had a choice though Lewis from Alabama or James?

James is not much of a shooter from what I remember but he is excellent/elite on the defensive end

Every sight I look at has him, Petty and the other guard from Bama having to sit out a year. Petty is the only player from Bama who has said no matter who they bring in he’s still leaving.

I think i read somewhere that after he said all that Oats convinced him to stay.

I really like the idea of having 2 PG's....it seems that depth at that position is a key to the teams who succeed...we also need a PG who can drive to create which isnt Tre's strength.

Timing makes you think he wanted to come here but wanted to see what Tre did.

Not sure this is true. The offense didn’t require him to do it to end the season. He showed plenty all year that his drive and dish capabilities are fine. You’ll see it more this coming season with a dominant block scoring big like Carey.

I get what you mean that it may not be his absolute best attribute, but he can drive just fine.

Barnes turned down UCLA and is staying at UT. James came to UT because of his relationship with Lanier and another UT assistant. Lanier took another HC job, but with Barnes and James primary recruiter staying at UT, James won’t be going anywhere else.

I thought he was a pretty capable driver too. And to that I believe a lot of the reason we saw it stop was the congestion in the paint. If Zion and RJ couldn’t get in there, Tre certainly wasn’t. This team needed one highly competent consistent shooter to create spacing. It wasn’t that we were just bad, we were really bad. And we were really good driving the ball. The margin between driving being a strength and shooting being a weakness was something I’ve never really seen before. Teams were very okay with giving us the shots and making us beat them from deep. Next year will likely be completely different.

Rick Barnes was simply leveraging the UCLA situation for more money. He likes the south, and I imagine Tennessee will be his last job.

As far as Kira Lewis, I read that Nate Oats wasn't pressuring him too much. But he did tell Lewis that he full expects him to be a 1st round pick by next season. If he sits out a year, he would have to wait another full year for the NBA.
