-Great home crowds, despite crap weather on Saturday and sunday. The shame of it is that we would easily have topped the 8K mark for each game if weather had cooperated. But, those who stayed were loud and made an impact.

-Very small crowds from the visiting teams. Kind of surprising, as teams like Indiana and WVU brought quite a few fans to KPP last year.

-There was a lot of handwringing about our pitching on here (including a little bit of that from me over the last month of the season), but man, games 2 and 3 were pitching clinics from the UK staff and coaches.

-Pooser is just rock solid from beginning to end. Moore struggled and was behind in the count constantly, but battled back time and again (and got a LOT of great help from his d). Niman was great for four innings, but hopefully he can build on it next weekend.

-We still have a hard time getting much out of Burkes, McCoy, and Smith at the plate, but Waldy, Nicholson, Pitre, and Lopez are very dependable. Waldy and Nicholson are legit HR threats, and the others get one occasionally too. If we coul d just get SOMETHING from McCoy and Burkes, then I'd feel really good about our offense from top to bottom.

-Our defense. wow. only one error all weekend (Daly last night), but damn, they brought it. Makes it much easier on a pitcher when you're back up by guys like that.

-Ming has had his detractors (me included, especially in the middle years), but every move he made worked out this weekend. Winning two regionals in a row, and hosting a super is rarified air in college baseball, ESPECIALLY around here. If he can get us to Omaha, then build a statue.

Couple of things.
-McCoy actually had a decent weekend...contributed more that what he had been doing.
-I made comments last night about Moore not being sharp. KSR has an article saying he was getting over a stomach bug issue from Saturday. He wasn't sharp as he usually is but what gutsy performance.

Agreed! I'm one that's been hard on the pitching staff (as recently as Game 1 this weekend), but once they locked in, those guys were great (and tough). A few tight spots, but able to work out of them. And with that D behind them, and usually quite a bit of run support, I hope confidence is soaring going into the Supers. That, along with the crowds, could make this an amazing weekend ahead.

Yes, McCoy was better this weekend, but the bar was low (he was on an 0-21 streak coming into the weekend, but got 3 hits this weekend). It's still rough to watch, as it seems like he constantly strikes out when we have bases loaded or men in scoring position with 2 outs. Hopefully he can keep it going.

You're right on Moore. He was struggling all night, and it makes sense now that we know he was sick.

So do you flip Pooser and Niman to try and get game 1 in hand?
I think they'll definitely go Pooser for game 1. That's his normal spot and the saturday game 1 will give him a full week of rest since he pitched on saturday during the regional.

Game 2 is the question (for me, at least). If it were me, I'd probably throw Niman and save Moore for 3 (if necessary), but a lot of it probably depends on how many good pitchers Oregon state has. Admittedly, I know nothing about their team except they have a top 5 draft pick, have a great home record (27-2) and a mediocre road record (9-10). Also, they have very few quad 1 wins and didn't win either the pac 10 regular season or tourney titles. Nevertheless, they are a tradition rich program (three nattys in the last 20 years), and will be a tough out.

Saturday , Sunday and possible Monday games

9 PM Sunday seems a little late- I guess the impact of having a PAC team as an opponent?
