I like this guy. Try him out front and run some of the offense thru him out top. Gives us a shooter if they back off, he’s a good passer, can drive it, scores down in the lane and is pretty fast. He can dribble up the floor as well.

Seemingly getting more and more relaxed as he adjusts to game speed and the system. Has the natural bball IQ. In time I think at 6 11 he could excel in that role.
Moreno is good at what he does but not an outside threat or ball handler or passer yet. Brandon not as skilled.

Give it a try! Spreads the court with a tall offensive minded skilled player out front. Plays hard when he’s in there. Can drive and take his guy to the basket and hit that short jumper or hook as well as dunk.

Also mix in some zone for an extended period. We don’t play man well and with no shot blocker way too many layups off ball screens.

Would love it on offense but I don’t think he’s a better rebounder than Moreno. That’s why I like him at the four with MM. Agree with what you said about him as the trigger man —- I’d like to see us use a more versatile player like AJ as the trigger because the defenders would have to stay attached to the action and it would open passing lanes. Good post.

Agree. He has to be given a much larger role. Do that, and get JQ on the floor, and Oweh to start playing better, and maybe, just maybe, things will turn around significantly.

Pope will still find a way to mess up the C/PF rotation if all our guys were healthy. He will put JQ and MoD together which will clog everything up.

He should have something like:

starters: JQ/Jelavic or Williams
backups: Moreno/MoD or William

I agree Jelavic passes the eye test. He plays very smart. All the same he has a quarter the assists this year as Moreno and his AST/TO ration is exactly half as good as Moreno's. I'd like to see him continue at four. Keep giving us that stability and experience there and hopefully overcome the nerves so his perimeter % comes back up to what he's capable of.

Besides which, we've only JUST started letting Moreno run zoom action occasionally and he's looked silky when he's done it. Why go away from him now?

I’ll go against the grain a bit and say that I don’t quite understand this board’s obsession with him so far. He’s a serviceable backup big, but just because he’s European doesn’t mean he’s Nikola Jokic. We’re talking about a player who so far this season has as many turnovers as assists and is shooting 4/17 (23.5%) from the three point line. His rebounding rates are solid overall, but nothing special either, and he only had 4 in 24 minutes while UNC walloped us on the glass.

I’m not completely down on his long term potential. He still hasn’t been playing in the US for long, so if he sticks around maybe he can improve and offer more in a year or two. For now though, I’m just not seeing the guy who could help save our season if only Pope would unleash him that some of you apparently do.

AJ showed some good post up moves against UNC. Not sure about his ball handling and his outside shot hasn't impressed thus far. Given our suspect three point shooting, maybe we should try to pound it inside by posting up our bigs versus trying to turn them into point guards. We hardly ever post up Moreno....he's got good hands and could kick it out if doubled.

I love Jelavich but he’s a depth piece. He is not good enough to be a key player on a final four team yet. Jelavich, Noah, Garrison are all spot minute or match up based guys.

Man, I was just going to post something like this. Definitely more versatile and a much better option as Moreno’s backup, BG should only get mop up minutes if we’re ahead by 40 with 2 to play. We will hopefully find out if Pope is learning anything tonight based on his lineups and subs.

Good idea - sorta the Amari top of the key offense like last year. Fits Pope’s system too.
Have him do it from the 4 with JQ & MM posting up down Low.

Less garrison more everyone else. I’m puking for AJ. He has potential. I think his problem is size and athleticism. At center I think he would get eaten up. I do think he can be a way out of this mess
