I threw this lineup once before but now seeing our limitations on defense with the guards, what are your thoughts on the following lineup:

Enoch - 5
Williams (stretch 4)
Sutton/Williamson - 3
Nwora/DJ - 2
Perry/Kimble/McMahon - PG

Play the Hulk if either Enoch or Williams gets in foul trouble. Obviously you might want to play McMahon at the SG when he is in.

Thoughts?

I think the “going big” option will definitely be on the table. The staff has to get creative. This team has been exposed and hit the wall.

Very concerned about our overall lack of quickness. Outside of Perry we just do not seem to be quicker than the competition, especially in the games we have lost. Also concerned about court awareness, many of our turnovers are inexcusable.
Really hoping we can get our confidence back.

Going big means also going slow. That might work against teams that prefer to run. Push the pace to a half court type game and maybe that'll work.

I think we all need to evaluate these observations based on our current coaching philosophy not on what U of L basketball. We are not the high flying, fast breaking slam dunking doctors of dunk anymore. Mack does not fast break unless it’s one on none, we don’t full court press to speed up other teams. Perry has decent speed but in Mack’s offense he goes too fast for himself sometimes.
If we are going to feed the post why not have both Enoch and Malik in there. I think that would pose matchup issues for opposing teams. Teams that zone us will create an opportunity for McMahon provided we run the right plays.

I still don’t understand people putting the magical expectations of DJ just coming in and being what we need to take on big/physical elite teams.

He’s a freshman coming off an injury that missed his first pre-season of conditioning. He needs to play more yes, but he’s not Russ Smith or Don Mitchell on day 1. He’s a 4-star freshman that needs time to develop.

I’d like to say the hell with it and win or lose, roll with the following lineup for the rest of the season.

Johnson
Williamson
Nwora
Sutton
Enoch

We are losing to Top 25 teams anyway, so might as well get the two freshmen with the most potential (and size) the experience now, and hope it all clicks come March. If it doesn’t, at least they’re prepared for next season.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. He can dribble and he has size for a guard, but I haven’t seen enough of his ability that says he won’t make turnovers or that he will make good decisions with the ball. This is basically an experienced laden team. You don’t want to experiment and turn the reins over yet, unless you’re desperate. We’re not there yet.

And David will be great in time.

I think people underestimate what losing those months of practice did to keep him a bit behind. He’s never played college before and had to miss all the crucial practices and scrimmages. He’s learning a new system against older and better players. On top of that, he’s recovering from an injury.

He wasn’t a Cole Anthony level player either, so there’s going to be an adjustment as there is for any freshman.

I’m excited to see him the next few years. I think he will be an all-time favorite Cardinal because he’s from the city. He’s he perfect example of what the NBA wants today. Long, strong, good shot, and some guard skills. I think he will develop into a special one.

I'm not sold on Williams and Enoch together. I don't trust that Hulk is ready, especially for ACC play.

PG - Fresh/DJ
SG - Perry/McMahan
SF - Nwora
PF - Sutton/Quizinsky
C - Enoch/Williams

That’s the lineup we used against FSU...

If Enoch or Williams get in foul trouble, you simply go back to the original lineup. Don’t have to rely on the Hulk but there could be instances where he could play valuable minutes as a backup to Enoch and then you still have Williams in the game. Hulk would play aggressive on defense and rebounding and you don’t have to worry about cheap fouls.
