Day 0 (travel day) was near perfect, easy-peasy bus trip to the city that brought us so many great memories in 2018. That year, fOSU and PSU were locked in a battle that wasn’t settled until Saturday night in the most spectacular of ways. That drama will NOT be the case in 2026, but the wrestling, so far, has still provided plenty of storylines.
Day 1 proved to go mostly according to plan for the Lions, with 8 making the quarters, 2 dropping to wrestle backs, all with a chance in day 2 (moving day I call it, as placement points can pour in, and guys can earn their way to the finals, OR AA status in consis.
The non-PSU surprises have been dramatic, and somewhat unexpected, but then again, it’s the national tourney, and maybe those surprises should be expected. A 29 seed, two 20 seeds, a 27 seed and a 21 seed in the quarters! A couple of #2’s going down and forced to fight their way in consi action just to AA. A Nickal-esque pin of a #5 seed. Welcome to the national tourney! Today, day 2, promises more of the same.
PSU has shown that they are the team to beat, no surprise. 18-2 against the best in the country. 15 of those 18 wins were bonus point wins, totaling 22.5 points (I think). Today the competition gets tougher, so advancing is the primary goal, though our guys WILL look for bonus while doing that.
Outside of wrestling, pawrestlerintn, Hockeygod, ItalianLion and others have been awesome to hang with, and we are eating very well, and having tons of fun. Even grabbed Shane Sparks for a photo op outside one of our restaurants (I have the proof).
To those that are here, or watching/ listening from home, today has the match-ups that promise to be more exciting than yesterday. Can’t wait!
