Born and raised in Covington. Left 30+ years ago to be closer to work on Ohio side. Still have family there so I visit often. It’s mostly old and run down, with a few exceptions.

Love MainStrasse Village, especially Dee Felice Cafe. And their Oktoberfest street party in MainStrasse is second to none.

There are a handful of must-see points of interest. Homes on the riverfront, many dating back in mid 1800s and still well-maintained. The Cathedral Basilica at 12th and Madison. The Roebling bridge and murals. The overlook at Devou Park.

Proud to be FROM Covington. Happy that I no longer live there. Not a huge fan of living in an old city.

Honestly, I don’t find much in downtown (and greater) Cincinnati that I can’t find in Covington/Newport and greater N Ky. Great restaurants and shopping (although I do wish they’d build a Jungle Jim’s in my neck of the woods- that place is crazy great).
Covington has been improving little by little and they have a very solid cultural scene between the restaurants, music venues and night life.
Definitely some trashy parts but not even close to the level of trash in Cincy.

Worse than lying and saying " I'm from Cincy" is one that irks me , gets under my skin " I'm from Northern Ky" .. like its better than eastern , western or southern Ky .

Well it's not wrong.

True , but have you ever heard a single person say " I'm from Southern Ky " I'm from Western Ky " not so much , but nearly everyone who lives in Boone , Campbell or Kenton counties say " Northern Ky

Every state has ****** areas .. I'm from eastern Ky .. wouldnt trade it for anything. Better than east Columbus , Better than Chicago , better than 100's of places IMO.

Better than Chicago, lmao.

Hate to break it to you but Eastern Kentucky is right there with the Mississippi Delta and some border areas in Texas as the shittiest of the ******.

Let me ask you this- do you think a normal person from outside N Ky would know where Latonia is? How about Park Hills? Wilder? Silver Grove? Independence?
There are about 25 different cities all mashed up in an area about the size of Fayette Co. So knowing the follow up question is “where’s that?” It’s just easier to say Northern Kentucky.

That, and every media outlet in Greater Cincinnati area refers to Kenton, Boone and Campbell counties as Northern KY. So it’s easy to see how it became the description that everyone uses. Add in Northern Kentucky University, Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky, etc...

This - from someone born there & lives 3 miles away in Northern Ky. Will be interesting to see what they do with all the old IRS property near the river. Braxton Brewery throwing a beer & music block party on 7th street this weekend. How bad could it be?

This too. I'd move to a historic area apartment in a heartbeat. But I'm only one vote.

Oh yea, THE Northern KY Symphony will be performing free BYOB concerts in Devou over the next six weeks. Bring a blanket & relax.

Covington is cool, run down, gentrified, red neck and yuppie. Big city feel and hillbilly at the same time. Lived there before and visit friends semi regularly. Family is mostly further south near Florence. Head to Madison or Main for food, drink and entertainment. Devou Park for greenspace. The riverfront has mostly been abandoned. IOW their leaders are just awful.

If In in California or Arizona, “Northern Kentucky” won’t cut it. No one out there can tell Ky and TN apart.

“Cincinnati” will suffice. If I’m overseas..hell I reference “near Chicago”.

In Europe if they ask where I'm from, I ask if they know where CIncinnati is & 9/10 say no. Then I ask about Chicago & Atlanta & normally get yes or a vague yes. I say draw a line between the two & we're a bit closer to Chicago.

Well, if you live in Northern Kentucky and say you are from Northern Ky, that's exactly what the person is looking for, where you live. Thus the question being asked. And, I'm guessing, almost 100% of the time, answering that way is NOT trying to say anything demeaning, or about being better than, Eastern, Western or Southern Ky. Seems like something really weird to get irked at.

I've lived in the Mainstrasse area for 2 years or so, great food and bars all within walking distance.
Does parking still suck? When I hang with friends we've been staying away and trying the Braxton area near Madison lately instead.

FYI, free live music and beer festival outdoors I believe near Braxton tonight and tomorrow.
