It’s almost as if in 2026 establishing oneself at a lower pressure job to where one could theoretically build their own legacy is preferable to being just another guy sitting in the main chair in a fishbowl where everything from your gameplan to choice of breakfast sandwich is heavily scrutinized by hundreds of thousands of undefeated yet unemployed coaches with perfect 0-0 records.

I really think blue bloods are gonna have to “take flyers” on up and comers unless there’s a Roy Williams at Kansas type who’d only leave for 1 school.

I could wind up being totally wrong. We’ll see what Carolina does because this very well could be us next year.

Said it in another thread, this is a bad time for blue bloods to be looking for a coach. Yhe proven coaches aren't coming, you're going to have to roll the dice on someone.
The guy at Saint Louis is good, but winning at a bigtime program is much harder than being an overachiever at a mid major.
That doesn't mean you settle for a Hubert Davis, or a Mark Pope, but the odds of getting a proven winner, are very low.

That's pretty significant. I kinda hope Donovan just takes the job so they don't go after and get Oats or Golden. Golden at UNC or Kansas would be a nightmare. Donovan will probably be good there but he doesn't really scare me like the guys currently dominating college hoops.
I don’t know why we’re sure they could even get Oats or Golden. I think Oztelberger and Lloyd turning them down already shows pretty definitively that the era of blue blood programs being able to poach any coach they decide on is over.

I think Donovan could still be in play based off some of the comments I’ve seen about him being frustrated with the Bulls perennially having a dud of a roster right now. That’s probably their last crack at someone with Final Fours already on their resume. If he turns it down, then they’re probably down to taking a swing on someone like Schertz who’s shown some success at lower levels, but is still currently in a situation where UNC would legitimately be a big step up in giving him resources to win with.

Donovan's college coaching stats.

12 years away from college basketball is like a lifetime. For people who say college is now like the NBA are wrong. Not every single player is on a 1 year contract like in college. You have to literally recruit every player every year plus recruit nonstop. Maybe he doesn't want to deal with all of that.

But But but.. that UNC fan told us they purposely stopped building a $1billion new arena to throw all the money at the new coach!!

Sad Michael Jordan GIF
And it was just reported that UNC offered to make him the 2nd highest paid coach in college basketball.

He accepted less from Arizona, along with a bigger pay increase for his staff, and (this is key) he no longer reports to the AD.

Oats and Golden are reportedly not under consideration due to their off court issues

And we have a winner! And this is why I use that word in a lot of my comments, to trigger you and your ilk😂 Now go watch The View or something, and leave the basketball discussion for the real fans of the sport!
Use whatever words you want man I was just trying to figure out if it was a bit I was missing. You might be a snowflake yourself sir maybe take a lap outside and get some fresh air.

Dude isn't leaving the west.
This.

I've said this for probably 3 years now. Always felt like he wanted to be out west. Didn't think he'd take Kentucky. Didn't think he'd take UNC.

He's had an amazing run at Arizona, and probably has the resources to compete every year.
Maybe he'd consider Gonzaga.
Maybe if he wants the historic blue blood, he goes to UCLA.

But he was never crossing the Mississippi River.

I was thinking the exact thing. Goodman hinted that Tommy and the AD weren't best buds, but the clause in his new contract negates that issue.

Why go somewhere and have your every move criticized by salivating dogs that try to speak for everyone, lol. Who'd want to live in North Carolina, BTW? Yuck.

You don’t think Arizona wouldn’t have ran him off if he didn’t produce? Come on
Any shot that Louisville fan has to take at uk fans he takes it. He loved Cal when he was failing here and the worse pope does the more he will brag on him. Starts arguments with everyone then cries to moderators wanting people banned if they say a word back to him. Typical bad Louisville fan has nothing better to do
