Kiffin has issued the typical "denial" without actual denying it.

I believe this reporter has been wrong before. The denial from Kiffin was a tweet saying it was news to him. That being said…I’d say Kiffin is headed for the plains.

Of course, Kiffin has an Egg Bowl on Thursday night, so I am sure he’d play it off. Ole Miss played like Kiffin wasn’t coaching last week against Arkansas. That was a trap game if I ever saw one.

Yeah, but the fact that the outlet actually posted the story on their website is weird. Not just someone trying to get notoriety on Twitter. I don't believe it's true, but who knows? I thought Auburn would shoot higher than Kiffin.

Kiffin, like most coaches, does not say "I am not taking the Auburn job." He just said "that's news to me jon." I don't know why these coaches won't ever just say "this report is a lie. I am not leaving."

Even if it isn’t a done deal…these coaches won’t shut the door. Saban did that when he left Miami for Alabama and got hammered for it. The better question is why do these media people keep asking questions they know the coaches can’t answer honestly. If Kiffin says he’s listening to Auburn offers and doesn’t get the job…that may not sit well fans / admin. I side with the coaches on this. Let his players play the Egg Bowl without all the distraction. It’s the right thing to do.

By piquing people's interest, they get folks looking to THEM for subsequent info. If the story happens to be right, they get the credit for first breaking it. If not, oh, well. No one will remember in a few months.

Why can't the coach answer honestly? If it's a business, and it obviously is, then just shoot straight. If you don't want to be a distraction to your team, then don't be a distraction by pursuing other jobs while your season is still in progress. It's not the reporters fault. Players deserve to know. Recruits deserve to know.

You asked why he won’t say he isn’t taking the Auburn job. That’s what I responded to. The reason why is because, even if he hasn’t, it doesn’t mean he won’t if they make an offer he can’t refuse. Even if he has, him saying he’s leaving for Auburn is way more of a distraction than the speculation. He’s got a game to coach. He’s still the coach at Ole Miss. he’s making it about the players…not him. Which every coach should do.

This is how it goes. Coaches typically don’t leave during of the season and god forbid that starts happening. The news will come out. Recruits will have plenty of time to figure it out. Everyone knows Kiffin is talking to Auburn as are a number of coaches. Everyone denies it. Do we really need confirmation for every conversation going on?

The media can continue to ask. But it’s dumb knowing they aren’t going to get straight answers. They just aren’t. Never have. Never will. One exception, as I pointed out earlier was Nick Saban. And they crucified the guy for saying he wasn’t leaving.

Yep. True journalism has pretty much disappeared in the last 15-20 years. Makes you appreciate the guys who continue to do it right. Sad those are typically the ones who are overlooked.

The good thing is, the true journalists are the ones coaches usually trust the most. Either those or the ones they’ve got in their pocket to only say good things about them and their program.

Well, just because people won't give a straight answer doesn't mean the questions shouldn't be asked.

If Kiffin really wanted to make it about the players he could simply say: I'm not leaving.

For sure. This has been standard-operating-procedure for journalism for eons. Decades at least. Everyone wants to be the first one to break the story. The way it has always been.

But he probably is. He’d get hammered for it. I’m fine with reporters asking. I just don’t get why they expect straight answers at this point.

I still side with the coaches on this one. But I also have a huge distrust with the media.
