Looking At 2017 Recruiting.

We are in good position for the following (rankings according to Rivals):

#3 Mohamed Bamba; 6'11, 205: Harlem kid who is now attending Westtown School in PA. 7'8 wingspan, which is Rudy Gobert territory. He will be a defensive force from day 1. Anyone know how his offensive game is developing?

#4 Wendell Carter; 6'10, 246: Atlanta kid (Pace Academy) who is really skilled offensively. I've heard he's really improved from 3, which would be huge considering he's 6'10. He and Bamba seem to be a perfect pair.

#7 Kevin Knox; 6'8, 197: out of Tampa Catholic in Tampa, Florida. Also plays QB for the football team. He's skinny and will draw comparisons to KD but I don't think he's that good of a shooter/scorer yet.; he has shown improvement. His 3 pt FG% jumped from 22% to 33% from his sophomore to junior year. Potential is outrageous.

#15 Gary Trent Jr.; 6'4, 180: Saint Paul, Minnesota (Apple Valley) product. I've heard great things about his shooting.

Do you guys think we will take more than that? Possibly #24 D.J. Harvey if he wanted to come?

Just from what I've read about these guys' recruitment, I think it's pretty realistic at least three of those four head to Durham. Bamba has made it known he's fine playing with Carter, and Gary Trent and Carter are the next package deal.

tw-that is good news. I thought I read somewhere it was Bamba or Carter. If Carter picked Duke, Bamba would go elsewhere. Carter, Trent, and Bamba or Knox would be awesome with who should be returning.

Certainly things can change, but I think someone posted an article on Bamba talking about that and I remember reading an article myself about that

I know I have read that as well, though I don't remember where. Carter has said that he really wants to play the 4 position, and I think he'd love to play with Bamba if Bamba fills the 5 slot.

Would dare anyone to drive against that tandem

Gary Trent Jr. posted a new blog today with a couple of items of interest. Trent picks Duke over Oregon and makes note that it helps in a big way for a school that is recruiting him to be still playing at this point in the tournament, and he refers to Kevin Knox as "a great friend" at the end of the article. We already know about the package deal with Carter, but it can't hurt Duke's chances if Trent has a good relationship with Knox as well.

I wouldn't get caught up too much in the package deal stuff on this one. They are friends but each is more inclined to do what is best for themselves. This is not a Tyus Jones/Okafor situation.

A lot depends on Boldens decision and Bamba.

I see that he mentions how schools still alive in the tournament is a big deal for him, and Duke is the only school on his list still playing.

What are the thoughts for the point guard position in 2017? I am pretty sure Duke has offered Troy Brown, a 6'5" point guard, and also offered Trae Young, an incredible shoot-first point guard. Does anyone have any information on their feelings towards Duke or vice versa? Has Duke backed off at all based on an expectation of having Thornton and combo guard Frank Jackson back in 2017, and then possibly having Tre Jones come in 2018?

Pretty much.

This package deal is talked about a lot, but something tells me that's all it could be. Not saying it doesn't happen, but rumblings at the Minnesota state high school tournament two weekends ago suggested Trent also really likes UK and that he's not totally committed to the package deal. Right now I would bump Knox ahead of Trent if I were predicting to ends up at Duke. I do think we get Carter.

Also, don't forget 2018 PG Tre Jones. It would be the upset of all upsets were he not to wind up at Duke.

I think we get Bamba, Carter, Knox, and Trent, although this is the first I've heard of Trent liking someone else besides Duke.

2018: Marvin Bagley and Cameron Reddish could be the crown jewels of that class. Add Tre Jones and Jairus Hamilton for good measure.

I am not as sure on the 2018 class as I am the 2017 one, except for Tre Jones. Like Dukiejay said, it would be a shock if he weren't a Blue Devil.

Great article but there was one part that made me scratch my head, he said "I just finished my second trimester with a 3.0 so that's pretty good". It's probably a crazy autocorrect typo and if it was an autocorrect typo then it's a pretty interesting autocorrect typo lol

Start watching Quade Green videos. You'll love his game. Tre Waters is still barely there, but the eggs are in a particular basket. Troy Brown is more of an OJ Mayo type and pretty much is out at this point. There are five solids and a few maybes. The staff ideally wants 5 and maybe 7 if it works and depending on who leaves. There is a current "recruiting" job being done with the current squad that may change some things.

Unfortunately, we might be looking out at 6-8 weeks.

Duke's 2017 class is going to be another good one. Don't worry about it.

Yeah it's going to be a bit with the Olympics and open periods and such. It'll be yet another fun (and stressful) recruiting season.

Thanks for the info. I was just curious as I don't believe we have any commitments in this class yet and many of these kids like to commit at the end of the summer. Very much appreciated.

Really?? That sucks, I was honestly under the impression that we had a great shot with both Carter and Bamba.

Hopeful we will start getting some commitments soon after the Olympics. I'm just impatient. I want to get them in and signed. OFC

Maybe, I wasn't clear. I think we have a good shot at both. I remember reading that Carter, at least, would like to play with Bamba. I am not sure exactly what Bamba is currently thinking.
