I rewatched the second half and have less hope for FSU. We prolly SHOULD of lost at ucf. Especially with Satterfield play calling. We just really lucky that Malzahn decided to call a worse game than Scott. It was like they were going back and forth trying to call the dumbest game they could. They started on their side of the field and we're in the redone multiple times. There were alot of over throws and incompletions due to the qb. If he was a Lil better they def would of scored in the second half. I know I have to give us credit for sure, and I was just as happy about the win as anybody else. I just don't feel confident about it. Please prove me wrong cards!

If, if, if …… anyone watching college football beyond UL can tell you that QB a execution can make a HC look like a genius or an idiot.
UF is the best example I can think of: Robertson takes the unranked Gators to #12 after beating Utah, and makes the ”way too early” Heisman List. Napier appears to have been the best UF a hire ever …….. until the disaster at UK.
Satterfield looked like a genius when Evans runs off tackle for a long TD, and then looks like an idiot when Cunningham throws an ill advised interception.

Tale of two halves. UCF looked faster and more focused on the first half. But the second was a different story. The defense really showed up. Both teams had lots of penalties, which is on the players. I don’t know that Gus called a bad game (if indeed he is the play caller). Plumblee was under pressure most of the night, with Coach Brown FINALLY dialing up a variety of blitzes they just could not handle. The Cards may have found something to build on.
I've kept my thoughts to myself since the game but I totally agree. UCF also had TWO touchdowns taken away by holding calls. UCFs QB lost them the game with his lack of accuracy and I'm not sure how much our defense impacted a lot of those throws. Playcalling was much better but people seem to be glossing over the fact that:
- we're 1-5 on 4th downs
- we're 9-25 on 3rd downs
- Malik's completing a career worst 58% of his passes and hasn't thrown a TD
- We've been called for 19 penalties in 2 games
- QBs have rushed for 178 yards against us.
- 4 TOs in 2 games
- 1 defensive takeaway and it was in a forced, 4th down, collapsed field endzone int.
Great win on Friday and much needed momentum - especially on the defensive side but we're going to have to look A LOT better than than we've looked these first two weeks if Satt's going to keep his job.
Malzahn called what he trusted his QB. It was pretty obvious they don’t have great confidence in his ability to throw deep and intermediate passes. A win is a win. A lot to learn and a lot to improve on.
BB ran the same blitz every play in the second half and he played 5 to 7 people on the LOS.
Is this another way of saying the best is yet to come? That it can't get much worse? or what?
Still 10 more games to make it or break it.

I hear what you are saying, but it was a massive improvement from week 1 to week 2. The defense was unrecognizable, kept UCF scoreless (I think?) in the 2nd half. Offense struggled but looked better. Let's hope the positive trend continues when the Cards return home for a Friday night game on national television against a brand name opponent.

Like I've said, I think there's talent on this roster. There's an 8 or 9 win team in there...I'm still "iffy" on the coaches ability to do that. I think UofL showed a lot of heart to keep clawing and get back into that game....the win was there and they did enough to get it and that's exactly what they had to do. Having said that.....I also felt like that was a game UCF lost more so than UofL won it. Defense stepped up but the love for the defense is being propped up by UCF simply missing a number of opportunities that had nothing to do with the defense. As well as two TDs being taken off the board as a result of two very "meh" holding penalties. I'm not calling the win fools gold we won and thats important. But that win hasn't changed my season very much from where it was post-Syracuse.
We desperately need to look good and beat FSU for anyone to have any sort of "feel" for who we could maybe beat the rest of the year. Lose to FSU and Satterfield's path to a winning record gets real tricky, real quick.
I said it was no better than a C+ or B- game from the Cards and I agree there are a ton of things they have to fix, BUT they did when a game on the road as an underdog and didn't even play a good game. I think it comes down to whether we think Satt will continue to improve on these issues that we all see are problems. I think that some things were changed in game 2, we'll see if that continues. I gotta think if we can see them, he and his staff have got to see it and then it comes down to correcting or changing some things. If they do, no reason we can't win 7 games but FSU probably has to be one of them.
To be fair, both these games were on the road, so crowd noise, opponent D maybe playing a little over their heads, this can maybe be incorporated into judging what we saw from what everyone would agree is disappointing offense.
The O has got to get better. Maybe they will in the friendlier home environment. Need some big plays we have not hit yet if they want to beat FSU.

I agree that the blitz packages were better,but you can't do that unless the guys in the secondary are doing their part. Plumblee was trying to find somebody open on a few of those plays and couldn't.

It was a weird feeling being at the game. We won; wife and I stayed for the entire game but it didn't "feel" like a win. Watching the game in person I spent more time fretting over how we were going to blow the game than anything else. I saw all of these UCF fans leaving early in the 4th quarter and I said to another Cards fan "I wouldn't leave if I were them; we still have plenty of ways to blow this."
Now a win is a win and I'm proud of the team and their heart but I still feel like there is a missing piece. I'd still much prefer to see Lance Taylor calling plays vs. Satt and I'm not sold on the defense yet because we still seem to prefer on 3rd downs to start our coverage exactly 1 yard beyond whatever yardage the offense needs for a first down.

SS said something after the game that may shed some light on the 2nd half improvement on offense. He said he told MC at halftime we are going to put it on your back. My interpretation of that is MC running the ball more. In the off-season, SS said they wanted MC to carry the ball less this year and I think the play calling may have reflected that in the Syracuse game, and the first half of UCF. Sounds like he threw that out the window at halftime.
Also, there are a lot of posts on why UCF went scoreless in the 2nd half, most blaming Plumlee. Plumlee definitely missed some open receivers but give BB credit for adjusting the defense to make Plumlee beat them with his arm.
