Bucky apparently didn't read the article or doesn't understand it.

A report by ESPN's Pete Thamel on Wednesday afternoon indicates that the Southeastern Conference is already planning for its newest members' arrival. According to his sources, Thamel says that the SEC has directed both Georgia and Tennessee to cancel their upcoming games with Oklahoma University.

This latest directive is being carried out to clear the way for the rescheduling of the conference's future once the SEC expands from its current 14-team format to a 16-team format.

UPDATE: The conference has confirmed the reports. Though they are holding true to the 2025 start date.

(that conference meaning SEC. The conference that doesn't have anything to do with Big 12 negotiations) If a new ESPN contract is signed you can guarantee a deal is being worked out for an early exit.

If the Big 12 was smart it would demand a 20 year contract that forces our yearly $/team stays within a certain percentage of the Big 10 and SEC. Only a supermajority breaks the GOR. Essentially iron clad.

We're giving up a shitload of money.

Wish in one hand, **** in another and see which fills first..

GOR only benefit universities without other options. No reason the schools who have a landing spot should get anchored down by an excessive GOR. 20 years is practically an entire generation college football. Never make deals that long, eventually they will work against you.

I would argue what is left of the Big 12 are really solid programs but 100% fill the bold words above. If we are making say a guaranteed 80% of the SEC and/or Big 10 every year and we have a 12 team playoff, then what is there to complain about?
Obviously the money could be better, but we'll be light years ahead of everyone else not named the SEC or Big 10.
We also need to embrace that WVU will never have the resources to compete in the SEC on a consistent basis. We will also never be invited to the Big 10. Maybe OSU would balk, but at this point in time they literally have no realistic options but to comply.

I think the future of college football is really murky right now and I'd avoid getting locked in to a long term deal - those work against you, imo.

I actually agree and I think there would need to be an "all or none" agreement. If the Big 12 gets invited to join in with the SEC/Big10 to leave the NCAA then we would move en masse. Again I bet OSU and likely Kansas would balk. F#$k 'em. Where else are they going to go?

The SEC and B1G are not going to take any other conference with them. The little12 are basically left out in the cold.
