Stoops said that he doesn't expect that all of the guys that participated in Senior Day will leave. Said we had 5 or 6 last year that didn't end up leaving. No offense to JJ but his best bet is to return and work his tail off in the offseason. Talent is there but has a lot of rough edges that need massaging. He can be a dominant edge guy if he puts the work in.

At this point, I'm more concerned that JJ is going to get some NIL portal $$$ crap and get the goods.

I just can't see a NFL player and draft position for him in next level yet. He still looks not near strong enough. He racked up 3 sacks on the season....hardly an impressive edge lber. But make no bones about it...UK needs him back huge. But the thoughts he'd morph into Josh Allen-ish..I am afraid that train has left the station....he might be like a Boogie Watson but his inability to really strengthen up has been disappointing.

You can't go into next year with only Wade twin as legit edge rusher. Having JJ and Wade would be a damn solid combo on the edge pass rush.

If he's leaving it isn't to the NFL. Of he transfers we have at least as good behind him.

Valentine leaving early is a much bigger loss

Here are the huge holes to fill....and portal is impossible to guess but this is why this season is such a disaster. We are giong to be a much less talented team next season (so we better coach it up a ton better).

Offense:

1. Levis....granted he didn't look good a ton. But he looked solid last year and maybe Scang is the problem. But the thought of goofy as crap Sheron taking the ball makes me long for the Wil Fidler days.

2. CRod.....nuff said. The backup RB had every chance to showcase early in season...and they fell right on their face. Wright in particular was a dissapointment

3. Horsey....need him back IMO if he wants another year...and he needs to play guard and enough of this tackle stupidity.

The rest is no big deal. Tayvion never materialized, Manning.....meh, Smoke...meh. I expect some TE to hit the portal, Donut will be gone as well IMO.

Defense:

1. Valentine...if he declares is huge loss IMO. I thought we was a really good CB and his toughness was great

2. Square and Jacquez Jones....he missed most of year but he's rock solid MLB. Then Square as well. But both are solid players. I like D Jackson and Trevin Wallace to replace them. But our depth will take a hit now and you need bodies to get thru 12 game schedule.
3. Jordan Wright was a solid edger Lber....never materialized as edge rusher in this league but he's an elite tackler in space and he was a great spy for all those running QBs. Outside of Vandy kid....we've not had running QB hurt us in a few years
4. Keidron Smith...I loved his play at CB opposite Valentine
5. if JJ Weaver leaves....need him tok play with Wade as edge rushers.....can't go thru SEC slate with only 1 SEC edge rusher.

Ajian at safety...not a loss. Lovett emerged and Zion really played out as well...and you get Vito back at safety. We have major holes at CB to address.

Definitely agree on crod. Don't see how we replace him. Definitely agree a TE or two hit the portal.

I think horsey returns to play og

Agree on defensive comments too

Cut Weaver some slack, the guy had a pretty bad injury(elbow) that really set him back. Don't forget with that type of injury the guy couldn't lift, even to maintain. Needs to come back for that reason.

Robinson also had injuries that cut into his production. Looked really good early but never fully recovered. Hope the break before the bowl will give him time to heal and he can contribute in the bowl game.

Doubt Horsey comes back and maybe after what he's been thru it''s best for him to move on. There's a pic on Twitter of him standing on the field post-game with the caption something like "Taking it in one last time."

Where was Goodwin Sat? Could've missed it but didn't see him in any pic.

I don't get the love for Valentine. Dude was constantly beat and out of position, has bricks for hands. There was a reason opponents threw at him a lot.
Look at rhe passing against Uk. Teams didn’t make a living in the air on UK. And valentine was our best sober guy. So feels as you may…his production was a really good year

If he move on …we’ll miss him for sure

He’s the 11th ranked EDGE according to Mel Kiper. Which would make him a day 2 pick. Leaving for the NFL is absolutely the most likely scenario for a guy who’s already graduated in that position.

Good post. The roster shake up is going to be interesting, not just for UK but for everyone. This will be the wildest offseason ever in college football most likely. Hooefully, our coaches have a plan and we have improved our NIL situation or we are going to be in a major pinch next year.

OL- I assume we are going to hit the portal hard. OT seems like a must.

RB- Losing CRod hurts bigtime.

QB- not sure what the answer will be here but we have won under Stoops with less than SEC talent by running the football.

The schedule is not as friendly. The East is much better. Could be a 4-8 or 5-7 type year if we don’t get some players in here via portal.

If CV was the best sober guy, then you may have identified the teams' troubles this yr. Esp special teams. I bet that snap and hold are hard when not sober.

Do you understand the actual position the coaches put him in, boundary, he cover the best of the best every game. He's and extremely important part of the backfield. If he leaves it'll be hard to replace him. It take a special talent, physically and mentally, to play his position Boundray Corner. IMO it's the 2nd hardest position to play, other than QB.

"goofy as crap Sheron." That's pretty harsh for a guy who played his first college game against SC and went 17-29 with two TD's and one INT.

Dude I usually agree with you on most things but ….why make that comment about Sheron ? That kid has barely played and when he did he wasn’t put in a position to succeed. He may never play here but that comment was uncalled for imo .

That’s like saying ā€œCrod gets tackled more than anybody on our teamā€ . Valentine plays boundary corner .

Weaver is a junior. He is one of the best players on our team. He has unused eligibility. Two possibilities I see here. Maybe the injuries, and he has been hurt a lot, have convinced him to move forward with his life. Or maybe he has already earned his degree and plans to become a grad transfer. He would have a bunch of choices. This might be part of what Stoops was talking about last week.

With or without Weaver, the Stoops bros and White have a rebuild ahead at all the linebacker positions. DJack and Wallace are really good players. I believe in Wade, Fearbry, and Godfrey. But IIUC Stoops needs about 4 more linebackers to fill out the roster for a 3-4. In 2021 and 2022, Stoops has used a 3-3-5 lineup at times. That was by choice, against passing teams. If he does not bring in more linebackers, maybe we permanently become a 3-3-5 team? It is becoming more common around the SEC.

I do not agree with all of your comments on our players. But we do need a haul through the portal. Quarterback, running back, safeties, linebackers. Maybe a tackle, but I prefer to see Goodwin in our lineup. We have a great group of young receivers, but we probably need one capable upper classman receiver to transfer in.
