Is very short notice, but have sought recommendations here for past 2 years, so this makes the 3rd. Headed to Louisville today for anniversary dinner tonight. Wasn't able to previously plan this because have been having auto trouble, so wasn't sure. Have done Seviche's last 2 years, so wanting something different. Preference of food doesn't really matter, except NOT a sea-food specific restaurant. Thanks and any recommendations for romantic dining experience for this evening would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no foodie, so you'll get better responses I'm sure...

Steak: Jeff Ruby's is the best of the best. You can always walk over to the Galt House - I think they have some Christmas decoration thing (I dunno). Ruth's Chris - you get a great view of the city.

But since both of those are chains and available elsewhere, I kind of dig Vincenzo's. Upscale Italian, and incredible service and atmosphere IMO.

The English Grill at the Brown Hotel is uniquely Louisville too. There is also Rivue at the top of the Galt House - again, more about the view of the city and river. I've never eaten off the menu there, just the Sunday Brunch.

Happy anniversary!

Many of the best restaurants (Milkwood, Le Relais, 610 Magnolia, Lilly's, 211 Clover Lane, etc.) are closed on Mondays so call ahead first.

Jack Fry's is always a cozy winner (and open on Monday), especially considering the weather.

RIVUE would be a great place this time of year. Ask for a table on the moving platforms so you can get the full experience.

Plus, the Galt House is pretty snazzy this time of year.

Volare is the best Italian I've had in the city. But Butchertown Grocery is very good as well. 8up is a good view, Jeff Ruby's for steak (le Moo is good, but heinously priced). Fontleroy's is good as well.

...been replaced by The Fat Lamb (Dallas McGarity, of Marketplace, Volare, Z's) -- people seem to be enjoying.

On a more casual note -------> Mexa Steak Tacos (St. Matthews) is o_O

CARAMELO $7.89
flour tortilla. sirloin , crunchy cheese , beans, onions, cilantro, roasted habanero mexican crema

^ the 'crunchy cheese' is apparently some kind of Mexico City street stand deal, basically a tortilla sized disc of cheese that's cooked til nearly burnt (but still chewy) on the flattop, then folded over into the taco. I mean, it's unreal. :fire:

Volare was it. Really excellent suggestion and choice. Starter was baked rolls of eggplant with ricotta-fantastic. Then tasty salad with goat cheese, roasted beets, etc. The best ever lasagna next that didn't tear stomach up at all and some really great ravioli vodka, tiramisu and hot coffee for wife . Schafly rotating tap was some really good beer. Appreciate all the suggestions and your help for having another successful anniversary dinner in Louisville this year.

Spent morning @ Dan Cummings dealership where they wouldn't drop down one red cent from the asking price, so our auto trouble rolls on. Thanks again! ... and Merry Christmas!

Glad your dinner went well. On the car front, there several sites that will tell you what you should pay for a given car in your area. They are even tied into dealers nationwide that will abide by that price. Its a good negotiation tool at the least.

Thanks. Paris dealership totally nonnegotiable. Looked under one truck over there that came from New York and then from Michigan that had pretty low mileage for a '13 and the bottom was like totally rusted out and even the hinges where you raise up the hood up were corroded over. Cropped that one off list in a hurry.

You went to a 4.5/5 open table rated restaurant and ordered lasagna?

Yep. That's what the taste buds were calling for and it was great! Possibly best ever had.

Next time take her to Moby Dick, you cheap SOB
Cheap? Volare isn't exactly cheap and the quality shows. And, as far as the truck, Tahoes aren't exactly cheap, either. Getting a good one with like only 20,000 miles or so is smart and what the lady wants. Let someone else bite the fresh out of the factory price, if that floats their boat.
