I know they are playing Charlotte but damn UL is loaded. Jackson has 404 total yards w/8 TD's in the first half. I am sure Pertino will not call off the dogs and run the score up against any team at any time. They have 56 points on the board at half time. I hate UL with every fiber of my soul, but this team is going to beat hard to beat.. Clemson and FSU will need to bring their "A" game to beat them. Jackson will be a legit Heisman contender by season's end. That is if does not get hurt..6 receivers have caught a TD pass. Impressive..

Charlotte is likely a bottom-10 team including the FCS. My high school team would score 20+ on them. Clemson and F$U, along with 100 other teams would be doing the same thing.

Yeah. Charlotte is trash but look how UT is playing right now. Beating anybody by 70+ is impressive at this level. You don't do that playing on an empty field without having a very competent offense.

But you can see that the athleticism of Charlotte is not up to snuff with Louisville! They won't do that against anybody else this year. Also, as much as Jackson runs, Petrino would feels really stupid if Jackson gets hurt in some meaningless minutes! Besides, Petrino is really classless running up the score in the last minute of the first half. I'm still glad he is not our coach!

Petrino is such a POS that he would run the score up on his own mother. That TD at the end of the first half was BS, you are up 49 zip and rather than taking a knee he has Jackson throw the ball. I know Charlotte sucks but UL does have some weapons. At the end of day everything about UL sucks..Go 'Noles and Go Tigers..

Meh, I am ok with the TD at the end. I'm not overly impressed, though. When a QB faces a defense that Shane Boyd would light up, it's hard to impress. He threw or ran on 34 out of 39 plays for UL in the first half. They played against the nation's worst team. Even if Barker were to have 10 TD's, I wouldn't be impressed. Anyone who has ever played football would look like a competent QB in that situation.

App St has 11 wins last year and had a top 5 defense in FBS. Charlotte is playing their 2nd year of football.

To be fair Louisville is good.
To be fair Charlotte is awful. Mediocre UK team beat them 58-10 last year.
Worse than that, that was a game that UK could have scored as much as they wanted. We basically threw no passes that game. This is one of those teams that the margin you beat them by is depending on personality of your coach. If you want to beat them 58-10 then you beat them 58-10. If you want to run it up and beat them by 100 then you beat them by 100. You pretty much name your score against this team.

Lamar Jackson is good, but there are a lot of QB's that could put up numbers in that situation. Most QB's don't get to throw or run on nearly 90% of snaps in a game like this. Most QB's get yanked in the first Q, or early second Q. Or they hand the ball of on majority of plays.

denard robinson... remember when he was bringing um back to the mountain top and was winning 2 or 3 heismans? yeah. lamar is a terrific athlete and runs like a boss but i still need to see how he does against a team like fsu or even pitt before i proclaim him the heisman winner. a qb has to be able to throw the ball effectively to be in the convo for that kind of stuff. vick was the first so it was kinda hard for Ds to adjust. vince young had the size and speed to just manhandle college Ds. lamar doesn't have the weight or strength to run over people so he's gonna have to avoid taking big shots which he seems good at doing. but he still seems to lack accuracy and good Ds will force him to put the ball in a window and not give him running lanes.... be curious how he does now that teams are whole heartedly going to game plan for him.

can you fumble forward for a score?

I don't think you can in the Pros but can in college unless it is fourth down. I remember thinking Lorenzen couldn't have done anything more when he was stopped in the multi overtime game on fourth down, I don't think he could have thrown it backwards in his situation, although Arkansas won a game like that.

Tim Tebow won a Heisman and a NC and his passing skills weren't any better than the kid a Louisville. If Louisville has a big year, this kid will be in New York for the presentation. The big question is can he do that against teams with elite talent, like Clemson and FSU, he will be a handful for teams with just good talent.

I agree. Last night was fun, but let's see how he does next week against Syracuse. Not a great team, but obviously better competition. And then of course the biggest test the following week against the Noles. He's still young, but he's level headed so let's see how this goes, but he's definitely headed in the right direction.

We beat Charlotte 58-10 last year while in a 4 game losing streak and starting a redshirt freshman QB. Charlotte is garbage. But UofL is really good. Jackson makes them dangerous on every possession.

Tebow had a lot better passing skills than Jackson. Tebow wasn't an NFL caliber thrower, although he did a decent job in the NFL, but he was plenty good enough in college. I believe Tebow could have survived in the SEC in a pass first offense. Might not have won the Heisman in that type of system but he could have been a good QB. I don't see Jackson with those kind of skills. He's a pure runner right now.

Also if UL does make the playoffs and Jackson puts up Tebow like numbers then yes he will be in New York. That's a lot of ifs though. You can pretty much say that about every QB right now.

What little I saw of the game, it appeared to me their punting may be a little suspect. UL is a good team but it sometimes is the little things that determine great seasons from good seasons.

I wouldn't base much out of the punting game last night; from the beginning of the game the flags looked like they were starched with a wind blowing straight into the stadium. The one punt in the first quarter going into the wind was a pretty good punt that you could see just die at about 35 yards downfield.

Even with the wind at their back though in the second quarter kickoffs weren't making the end zone.

Can't tell much when you play an opponent like that, except that UL is far more talented than Charlotte, which everybody already knew. Jackson is a freak, though. He's an absolute "change the game" type college football player. It's takes an exceptional play by an exceptional defensive player to tackle him one-on-one in the open field. And that simply puts extreme pressure on a defense and changes the game.

Great defenses with exceptional team speed can contain his running and take it away, but it forces them to blitz less and play more zone. Blitzing him and putting your secondary in man coverage is very risky and opens you up to the big play. And not being able to go that aggressive hamstrings a defense. When he learns to read a defense and starts delivering balls on time and on target against those zone coverages (if he ever does), he will become unstoppable. He's already unstoppable to mediocre and poor defenses.

Yearly hype talk is not limited to just Louisville message boards my friend. Just take a look here every summer/early fall with talk of UK going 8-4 and winning the East. Just saying.
