I realize that many of the fan's hearts aren't in this game after recent events but thought I'd make the thread anyway.

I definitely don't expect this UofL team to win at Rupp as that hasn't happened in a long while and with teams that were much better than this one. Can only hope Malik will be back for this game.

I think Kentucky wins in close one since at home. Kentucky coming off big win and UofL a loss will make this close. If Malik Williams is still out then probably not close.

They have to contain Wheeler and Washington. If they don’t it will be a beat down. I really don’t like their chances if Williams is out. They are terrible defensively when he is out.

That's why I was saying in the other thread that they might as well press. They can't guard anybody in the half court. Go a bit smaller and press.
I don't see how it can hurt... Idk

Simple. Malik is not in shape to run up and down the court and we saw what happens when he’s not on the court.

Official Statement:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The University of Louisville men's basketball team has paused all team-related activities indefinitely due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests among individuals within the program, UofL Interim Director of Athletics Josh Heird announced on Monday.

As a result, the Cardinals' scheduled Wednesday (Dec. 22) game at Kentucky has been postponed. Officials from Kentucky and Louisville will monitor opportunities in which the teams can reschedule the annual rivalry game.

So when he's not in the game...press.
So you have 2 different game plans based on one player? What happens say when he’s out of the game and you get down further because shots aren’t falling? I guess you don’t bring your best player back in the game?

Pitino pressed because he had a shot blocker at the back end of the press. Mack relies on denial rather than shot blocking and steals.

I don't think the Cards have the personnel to do it, and I also don't think the staff is capable of coaching it on the fly.

The guards and forwards aren't quick and have no length. They'd probably just get burnt for easy baskets. Might work against really bad teams, but most everything works against really bad teams. A team like UK would just destroy it with their quick guards.

The other problem, does UofL even score enough to press anyway? Not really. :D Kinda hard to press off bad perimeter turnovers or scud missile bricked 3 pointers.

The only thing the team has done well when fully healthy is play half court defense. A press probably neutralizes their only mild strength.

I could be wrong.

I just think there are no answers. Play the best defenders the majority of the minutes and try to win games in the low 60s high 50s.

Yeah and how's that working out? The short answer is yes you have 2 gameplans. This isn't the Manhattan Project. You just mix it up a bit,try to keep your opponent off balance a little.
Oh and you can bet their will be a lot of easy baskets...probably both ways, but it gets the game at the pace you want.

They were pressing at the end of that game Saturday. Man to man press is a lot easier than what Hopgood and those guys ran under DC.
Hey,I'm just throwing out ideas. We got a whole season in front of us. Some people want to see the coach axed right now. I get it,but that probably isn't happening.

The team pressed earlier and more often in the Bahamas under Pegues. It seemed to work pretty well and was at least pretty effective. Now whether that was due to the quality of our opponents or just that it worked, I'm not sure.

Every team we play knows how they are going to attack this defense because that's all they do defensively. If they did it like Virginia then yeah, stick with it,but they don't.
I didn't see those games down there in the Bahamas so I don't know. I'm just looking for in game adjustments.

I agree. This defense is way too easy to scout, attack, and plan against.

I'm not trying to say Pegues is better than Mack but it appeared to me that Pegues put in some wrinkles on the defensive end that really benefited the team in the Bahamas. At the very least he made it a tiny bit less predictable.

As mentioned earlier, he pressed earlier and more often and he shortened that high outside hedge that the center does that we get burned on so often. The center would still do it but wouldn't go so far out to do it and could recover faster, especially if no one rotated over to help.

So this morning listening to 92.1, the radio announcer says “Well, the Cats were ready to dance all over the Cardinals tomorrow night, but due to Covid and “cowardice” they will be taking on the Hilltoppers in Rupp Arena.

This is why I hate them so bad. Yeah, I know it’s one guy but just knowing that his listeners probably agree makes me sick.

Don't let it get to you. Uk refusing to play UofL for 25 years without a reason will always be the real display of cowardice.
