Why do people keep fixating on what a guy is "without shoes?"

Do they play the game without shoes?

Let's just be honest, so much is made of metrics, so you know guys would do anything to gain an advantage. So, if they had shoes that inflated their height a little, it COULD sway things in their favor.

By doing the measurement without shoes, it's just getting the true, raw measurement. In doing so, it just removes any variability based upon shoes...

Almost every site ive seen on Lowe listed him at 6'3" 175lbs. They measured Koby Brea at 6'5.75" 201lbs at the combine but was 6'7" 215lbs on the official UK roster. If Lowe is 6'0" 161lbs in the NBA im going to say UK lists Lowe at 6'2" 175lbs.

It’s this. NBA scouts prefer without shoes because it simply gives a more reliable, consistent and honest measurement.

There’s more illogical variance when measured in shoes, with the amount of extra height added by the shoes differing from player to player, and even changing from measurement to measurement. And there are subtle ways to cheat a little extra (thicker shoes, slightly arching your feet, etc.) less detectible when you have shoes hiding your feet.

Here are combine measurements of some other UK guards for comparison:

Dillingham- 6’1 164
Quickley- 6’2 185
Fox- 6’2 169
Knight- 6’1.5 176

So he’s small no doubt about it. The wingspan will take care of the length/height component at least.

Being that small will probably always crush his draft prospects barring a massive uptick in shooting.

Different shoes give you different measurements depending on the thickness of the sole. Measuring barefoot gives you a more accurate measurement across the board.

I'd assume that 6'6 wingspan and 8'3 standing reach are putting in a substantial amount of work in that regard.
And this is what really matters. Height has always been an overrated metric. What matters in terms of functional basketball length is not how high your head is, but instead what your hands can reach.

Which is why wingspan and standing reach are more relevant metrics. And Lowe measures well in both categories.

Not necessarily. Go pick up some max cushion Hoka, Brooks, NB. Things have 2" of heel stack and weigh about the same as a sheet of paper. Pretty impressive stuff. Personally, way too squishy for my running preference. Awesome to wear around though.
What are you on about? I’m talking about players being listed weighing fifteen pounds heavier in shoes.

I mean he looks bigger than measurement

He looks more like 6-3 in shoes in highlights...

Actually, he should be "smaller" than Dilly, but he looks like way bigger than Dilly in highlights

So I am just a little confusing, lol

160 pounds seems like a light weight to me.
Lowe is important to this team’s success, we need him on some all-sec ballots to get where we want to go, IMO.

His length is really good for a 6'1 to 6'2"- ish PG (in shoes)

8'3" standing reach is only 1" lower than the Harrison Twin's standing reach.

6'6" wingspan is good too. Harrison twins were 6'8.5" and 6'9" wingspan.

As for in shoes , or not in shoes, you HAVE to measure them without shoes or prospects and agents would put inserts into shoes to get an extra inch or more. It's to keep the process honest.

Bigger pet peeve to me is go get everyone to stop focusing on height. standing reach and wingspan matter... the top of a player's head isn't a useful metric unless you are jumping over them in a dunk contest.

Check out the link below and sort by standing reach or wingspan.

I don't understand weight anymore. I'm 6'1", fairly slender, not especially muscular, and I weigh 185. I can't see how a 6 foot dude with Lowe's musculature could only weigh 160. Thought the same about our other recruits this summer who were cracking numbers like 6'8", 190???

Lowe’s legs are toothpick thin. He does not have much weight there
