Maybe they can beat Missouri next year on the road if they get their two big guys back and the two frosh and the transfer together...maybe.
they have 3 pros this year and might have 3-5 next depending on who goes and stays. I do worry about thier coach as though LSU is a top 30 team this year IMO they should be better.
Simmons and Blakeney are enough to make them a top 20 team (and Victor helps), but I think they're still a PG (and maybe a coach) away from being a top 10 threat- though Simmons might be good enough by himself to get them to that level.
I'm always happy when UK faces a stronger SEC, specifically when there are one or two other teams that are legit FF threats. Even when the SEC has some talented teams capable of rising to the occasion on any given day, I never like the idea of UK playing 2 straight months without facing anyone likely to at least make the Sweet 16. LSU next year should be a game to circle.

They could be pretty good with everyone back, potentially a top 10-15 club with Elite Eight potential:
Starters
PG Gray- hopefully he will improve.
SG Blakeney- potential stud.
SF Simmons- superstar.
PF Mickey- stud.
C Martin- stud.
Bench
G Patterson- decent backup.
G Hornsby- best shooter.
G/F Quarterman- double digit scorer this year.
F Victor- should be a decent backup big.
C Odo-role player.
With just one of Mickey and Martin back, they would still be top 25, IMHO.
If Mickey and Martin both leave, they could still potentially be an upper echelon SEC/NCAA tourney team, probably in the 8-9 seed range.

Until LSU gets a good coach, the talent they have won't really matter. Gotta give them credit for players they will have next year.
Yeah...LSU, one of many SEC programs that is a good solid coaching hire a way from consistent top 20 and advancing in the big dance...
Of course that is probably by design...less money on bball coach, staff, resources, etc...more money for top shelf 1million+ dollar football coordinators...
They, along with a couple other SEC programs are a Richard Pitino, Orlando Antigua or Kenny Payne away from moving up in the world...

He would be with the athletes LSU has...His father would struggle at Minnesota...Tubby, who got Tulsa and UGA to the sweet 16...could only advance 1 time with the gophers...
LSU is a different ball game...closer to rich recruiting pipelines in their Louisiana, texas, Alabama, florida, Atlanta etc...
Coaching is in his blood...he'll be hunting titles for somebody one day...

I once lived around an LSU fan base, and I miss the competition that they provided during the Dale Brown days... so, if this class really puts them back on the map, that's fine with me.
Other than the 1986 Elite 8 game, I don't hold anything against them... and that fault was more on the NCAA for their BS bracket construction that year.

Just because the father can coach and is a great coach does not mean the son will be. Are we even allowed to admit Pitino SR is a great coach? I better edit that.
And I agree with you, I was just taking a classic Pitino family shot with my comment. That said, no guarantee he gets all these studs to LSU, but it would be easier to recruit there.
Slowly the western part of the conference is getting better. Perl will improve Auburn in the coming years and
LSU is recruiting good talent now. Arkansas has improved since Anderson took over. Grant at Bama might be on the
hot seat now that Pearl is at Auburn, lots of pressure there now. I'm surprised that Miss. St hasn't done better
this season so far.

Mj2 , they have one of 5 best pg prospects NBA wise on thirty team but he just came from juvo and I believe he might pro after this year but if he doesn't they would have to a top 10 preseason team If Mickey and Martin were to return as well..
Minneapolis just produced 2 top 10 players, if Pitino can find a job with better back yard talent then that......
JJ has won 39 games in his first two years, the most by any Tiger head coach in their first two years in the 100-plus years of the program. They extended his contract thru 2019 as of Oct 24 2014. Although he's been so-so in the SEC (18-18?) he doesn't seem to be THAT bad for them moving forward, especially with the kinds of recruiting classes he's bringing in.
Gotta give him the benefit of a doubt by recruiting these kids (and getting the AZ transfer). Let's see how he does with them, and if he can get over the hump with his own kids. Maybe this is just the kind of opportunity with the talent he's going to have to make LSU a real SEC power.
If he can't get it done now, then the fault lies squarely on his shoulder for not succeeding with the talent he now has at his disposal.
