The Athletic is reporting that LSU is going hard after Brian Kelly. Would ND be interested in a certain Chicago Irishman coming off a 3-9 season?

Honestly, if they take our Irish defensive coordinator as well… I’d be fine with it at this point.

Fitz is apparently satisfied with the coaching staff’s performance from this past season. NUFB can not afford another season like the last one, and we are clearly poised for it.

Reportedly a done deal. Kelly to LSU. Wow. Who’s next in South Bend? Names I’ve heard so far include Marcus Freeman, Luke Fickell, and Urban Meyer. Wild stuff!

Thread title should be updated to “LSU buys Brian Kelly.”

Lots of green for Kelly, I’m sure.

That NIL money is ruining the game.

(Crazy that some people are worried about $3000 academic awards while coaches are bouncing from school to school for ‘Island Nation GDP’ money.)

Wow, that's a nice retirement package for Kelly. He's 60 years old. If he gets bounced from the bayou, he can take those bucks and retire to the golf course. Not a bad way to live, I guess.

Unless he has both a cocaine addiction AND a gambling problem, he achieved financial independence nearly a decade ago.

Of course he achieved financial independence long ago. He could have probably retired from ND now and been just fine, with a side gig as a studio analyst to keep him busy. Going after a new $100M contract at age 60 is an ego thing, which I'm sure isn't a rarity with coaches at this level.

I highly doubt ND considers someone who has not already proven himself as a head coach at the D1 level. Freeman is probably not seriously under consideration. I think Narduzzi has done a really good job at PItt. He would be an interesting candidate.

Does this look like a stable, financially independent guy to you?

The Domers may have upgraded with Freeman.

Players and recruits love Freeman, unlike the departed screamer.

Another former Domer DC that players loved (over the HC)?

Barry Alvarez when he was the DC for Holtz.

This one aged well, as with most of Corbi's predictions.

Brain Kelly is a clown. ND got a huge character upgrade with Freeman. Kelly’s going to miss ND’s soft schedule when he gets pasted by Alabama and Georgia. The guy won’t last 3 years down there.

I agree, but at $9.5M a year, his plan from day one was probably to only stay 2-3 years.
