Maybe it is just me but has anyone noticed that since K has been gone it has seemed like Luke's roll on the offensive end has changed. It seems as if a lot of the offense is being run thru Tatum. Before K left all of the sets seemed to be run thru Kennard. I may be just imagining it, but the more I watch the more I think Capel is really tied at the hip with Tatum. Have a good Tuesday everyone.

I think you are totally on to something. Luke got 20 pts in a somewhat limited role last nite (limited for him compared to mins he should be getting). What did he get, 9 shots? Way too few...

I think it's more about Tatums attacking ability but right now who knows. All the scoring in the world ain't gonna help if the other team is putting up points and getting stops

Hey Shey, I agree with you about Tatums attacking ability but I honestly feel much more comfortable when Kennard is attacking. He has the ability to finish on a regular basis. I just do not understand why Luke's role has changed so much since K has been out. It is becoming more and more obvious as the season goes on the Capel is going to roll with Tatum as the "guy". I was wondering last night after the 3rd or 4th missed layup and the ball going stagnant when he touched it if Coach K would have sat Tatum for awhile.

Capel did the same thing last year when he coached the one game, Kennard maybe played 10mins that game. Not sure what it is but Capel is not a big fan of Kennard. Luke has so much ability getting to the basket and creating for everyone, he is the only team first player on the floor on offense.

If you go back and watch the Kansas game when all 3 freshman were out that looked like Duke Basketball even though we lost. I am not knocking the kids but them coming back has killed all flow that we had at the time. I honestly believe if they were not back we have 2 maybe 3 loses.

I would counter with a question - are there any defined roles on the team? That to me is the main chemistry issue and not just this year. Take Allen - Freshman year he was a true role player, limited minutes and our saviour in the Championship game! Soph - he was the go to scorer and clear #1 choice in crunch time...this year - what's his role? Scorer...PG...or both? I would say even he does not know game to game...balancing a need to feed minutes to the Starlets - ( to make sure they are happy and that recruits watching see them getting playing time ) - has created a disjointed and inconsistent rotation on both ends of the court and our performance shows it.

Bingo! And for all Allen's done this year should be his clearly most defined role! Suddenly we're changing Luke and Grayson's roles in mid-year. Luke Kennard is our leading scorer and best shooter, but he doesnt even get as many shots as Matt Jones last nite....

There is ONE CONSTANT-Tatum....He is allowed to play thru everything.

That's a pretty good summation.

I just hope the next time we build an all-star team, we get a point guard so that it actually works.
Tyus or Thornton should still be here. That was the plan, just didn't work out. If Tyus doesn't have that magical season, he is leading this team and we don't even get Thornton IMO.

That's definitely the key ingredient we're missing. It should also be noted that the expectation was for one or both of Tyus and Derryck to be on campus this season. Things change.
Exactly. And truth be told, Duke planned on it being Tyus leading the way for at least 3 yrs. He wasn't a 1, 2 and done type of player. He is getting paid, but got drafted over already.
