Lunardi gave me a ray of hope

I heard an interview with Lunardi where he offered a comparison that I haven't heard. He said NU's resume is very favorable compared to other big conference teams in the middle of their league standings. For me, that gives more credence to the people who believe this is a done deal with 10 league wins.

Take it for what it's worth. Also, the interview was before the Illinois game. However, it gives a wider scope than most of us usually have.

He said NU is "all but in." Now we know what the "but" is, but I'm trying to move beyond that.

Kap&Co interview? Agreed, that also gives me some hope. But, if the Cats look like they did last night in the next few games, I think it will raise a lot of concerns for the committee regardless of the resume prior to this stretch. They may look at NU as a team that has lost whatever they had earlier in the season. For me, bottom line, the boys need to turn it around and finish strong.

Was that the interview when he said NU joined the Big Ten in 1953? I laughed at how random that was. Alternative Facts I guess.

The good news is that we're on all 116 brackets listed on bracketmatrix.com, with an average seed of 7.95 (high of 6, low of 11). That's about 15 or so spots above the last at-large (play-in) spot as far as I can tell, so we're still solidly in at this point. We have flaws, but so do all the other teams we're battling with for these spots. We also have 5 conference road wins, which is a big plus.

The bad news is our last 3 games are against the 45th, 27th and 11th ranked teams via Kenpom (we're 39th) so winning 2 of them will be difficult.

Weirdly, our Wikipedia page says that the Western Conference wasn't renamed the Big Ten until 1953, so I'm assuming that's where he got that from. But that's not even close to accurate, so I have no idea what the hell the Wiki page is trying to say.

Isn't that also when Michigan State joined the conference?

As of this morning (2/23), Lunardi has us as a #9-seed, playing Miami in Buffalo, with Villanova looming in the second round. A slip down from #7, but not quite bubbly yet.

And Palm (2/23) still has us as a #7-seed, facing Cal in Indy. He lists 16 teams on the bubble among the field of 68; we're not one of his bubble teams. Let's beat IU or Michigan and then we can R-E-L-A-X.
