so who ever would have thought we would finally get a chance to watch him against our boys!! We’ve had a few (okay more than a few) threads on him before and tomorrow’s the big day

Wonder if this will ignite the infamous "Mac McGlung feud?" I think those two posters should come out today with guns a blazin' and debate Mac's impact on tonite's game! Hey speaking of @Mac9192, you recall that showdown don't you???!!! Good post Pisg!Actually I agree w/Dirt, kid's looked pretty good in his college career thus far...

I was wondering last night why Duke doesn't seriously recruit a slow but good shooting guard like McClung or Girard. Maybe it doesn't match Coach K's desire for athletic guys but it would help as a zone buster. Seems like every team has one. I wonder if it's a Greg Paulus hangover--a talented guard who wasn't athletic enough.

Though he was a big recruit, Luke Kennard was the definition of a slow but good shooting guard. I also think we have a monster zone buster in Joey Baker. And if Alex can start making shots again, he fits the bill to a tee.

McClung is a lot more like Grayson Allen, a big time athlete who is also a streaky shooter. Grayson much bigger though, hence why he was a big recruit and is playing in the NBA. McClung won't sniff the NBA, probably will be a great Euro guy though.

I've watched Syracuse this year and Girard isn't an ACC caliber player. The guy is sooo slow, maybe by the time he's a senior he can play in the ACC, but I really don't understand the hype. Him having to play a lot for Syracuse speaks more to how bad Syracuse is than anything IMO.

We have a certain base that doesn’t think he’s any good, and want him to have a bad game to say “I told you so.” No matter what happens tonight with him, he’s not that bad at all. Some just won’t admit it.

Mac McClung is an example though of how much different college basketball is now. For the older fans, who would have ever thought a white kid would be one of the better players at Georgetown? Let that sink in.

Very true....OFC
Just goes to show how much things can change when some are still stuck back in time.
Very true....OFC
I am an older fan. Just goes to show that times can and have changed for the better in all aspects, not just sports. Now if young and older people in general can all get on board, then one day we can stop talking in general on color and focus on ability. Now let that sink in as well.

I think @Mac9192 was merely making note of somewhat of an outlier- reference the white player of significance at Georgetown. However I see your point maybe someday we can get beyond such scenarios. I just found it interesting and a very healthy thing....

It was merely a comment made to show how college basketball is totally different than it used to be. Some for the better, some not, in my opinion. One for the better is a kid like Mac McClung. How someone looks at my comment is up to them, but it wasn’t meant as anything but a positive. The fact that he’s playing for arguably Georgetown’s greatest player ever makes it even a better story.

It's all good man, no harm toward you or Matt. My self, I just get tired of the color of a person's skin that has to be brought up in a topic, which can sometimes take away from the focus on the ability standpoint. I just didn't think that part needed to be highlighted. Different strokes for different folks and all opinions matter to me, not just mine.

Kid is a darn good player. I wouldnt mind having him at Duke. Fortunate we took him off his game last nite w/foul trouble, and he got pretty frustrated. Hoyas are tough and he will only help them as the year goes along I believe....OFC

Yeah, he’s alright. Probably better then I expected, but not overly efficient. The chip on his shoulder is good and bad, depending on the circumstance. He’ll have good nights, but will probably have as many bad ones. I’m glad he’s where he’s at, and we have the guys we do.

I understand that and totally agree with it. My comment was based on just what you are saying, times have changed, so for some of us old-timers, who been around for a while, a person's ability was often overshadowed by other things. Probably saying the same thing in 2 different ways.

His comment should have been taken for what it was ; just an observation. The only thing it crossed was time. No boundaries were harmed in the writing of that post. It gave me pause, but only because it was to me, an interesting observation. A "then and now" kinda thing.

Savarino would still be at Duke. I think teams can carry up to four redshirts now, it might even be more. Heck, UNC had 17 one year....or maybe it just felt like that. ;)

Kid is a good shooter and you can never have too many good shooters.
Very true comment about us not needing him IF Alex' shooting becomes more consistent. Alex did display some tough, scrappy play st times last night. Hope that trends upwards!
Dont know what Moore said to McClung, but it should have been: YOU'VE BEEN ZIONIZED!!

And everybody's observation is different, which didn't make either wrong. If you don't think so, hang around for game day threads. Ones opinion is not facts, including mine, and definitely not yours. So you take a observation your way jacker, and I'll take mine my way.
If you look at my response, it's talking about how color is sometimes interjected where it takes away from other things. That's truth, not an observation. But I'm going to leave this thread and my responses where it's at.

You're probably right....Roy's been known to do that to boost team APR....I was really only kidding about Savarino not having a spot on the team....He's in like Flynn!!:D

Dakich likes cocky guards. I like guys that score more than six points.

I kid, I kid. He is a decent player for sure. I watched him play several times in high school, and I wasn't sure what kind of player he would be at the collegiate level. He played in the second smallest classification in Virginia, and you don't really see high-major or Power 6 guys there. During his senior year, the team they beat in the championship game I believe had one scholarship basketball player (and if I am not mistaken, was @dukehokie alma mater) who is currently at Monmouth. The team they beat in the semis had two guys who are now at Radford University. At that level, you can go your whole season, including all the way to the championship, and not see a single Power 6 guy, so a Big East guy is really on another level from everyone else.
