I usually buy versions about 3 yrs apart. And I usually stay a few yrs behind to avoid paying new prices. But I’ve been playing from the beginning. Currently I have a PS4 and have a Madden version that’s likely 4-5 yrs old. I won’t buy another until I upgrade to a new console.
I’ve never known a Madden game to be buggy. But I’ve also never done anything online. I usually just play dynasty.
Now something that was frustrating at first when I started to play the newer versions….say the versions that have came out in the last 5-7 yrs…..is that the realism has been cranked up quite a bit.
-You can no longer just pick any old play and dominate. It’s really difficult to return kicks very well.
-You have to count your blockers vs the defensive front. You can’t run into imbalance and get anywhere now….you have to audible.
-Passing is a lot harder and realistic. It gives you options if you want more YAC or secure possession. You have to be able to recognize some minor clues about the defense….what cover shell, etc
-On defense you have to pay attention to your personnel. If the offense is showing 5 wide….and you’re in a heavy 4-3 or something, you’re more likely to get torched vs being in a light dime.
It’s more realistic and forces you to think more…..but it also reduces your ability to turn your brain off and dominate 70-0.
