Anyone know if she was at the women's BIG tourney this past weekend?

Her team is in the playoffs - they played on Saturday, and again tomorrow.

No clue if she want to the game on Sunday or not.

They won their last game 95-21, Maddyn outscored the opponent by 5.

I remember a photo Jan Jensen posted years ago of her holding a months old Maddyn when Chad and his wife were visiting Iowa City. She joked that she got her committment already, how fun would that be if it happens.
Spoke with Chad this weekend in Des Moines. He said if it were his choice she would be a hawkeye. His words, " she is 15, knows everything".
Chad was at Grand Opening of a new golf store in West Des Moines. Couldn't have been more cordial. Pictures, autographs, etc. Took time with everyone.

Does this mean she doesn't want to be a hawkeye? Or does it just mean he's letting her make her own decision like a reasonable parent would? (or both I guess ha)

Years ago Chad was sitting behind me at kinnick on a football Saturday. He was with I assume Maddyn, reading her a book called Are you my mother. It was the same book my wife read our son many times when he was young only that was almost thirty years earlier.
I thought it was interesting that the same book was being read so many years later.

She had a 30 point triple double in her last playoff game. Think the are in the semi finals now.

I went to high school in Minnesota at a similar sized school....always interesting to follow a bit and see how schools are doing. Spent so many hours in many at many of those schools in one sport or another.

Greenway outplayed Olivia Olson last year. So many factors go into a recruits decision. Apparently, Olson's dad is a hawkeye fan and Iowa was not in her final ten, so you never know. I am more concered with the here and now, if the Hawks sign players that Greenway feels she can win with seems more important. Unless something changes Iowa is in for a rude awakening when Clark leaves.

Are they gonna quit playing basketball?

But I do get your point. It had been many days since an Iowa woman had won Big Ten POTY before Clark joined Iowa.

I would have to take off my shoes to be able to count the number of months since we had a national player of the year before Clark.

I thought it was clear, but let me explain. The thread is about Greenway, who I beleive will be a top ten prospect in her class by the time she is a senior. I dont think coming to Iowa is a sure thing. Instead of wondering if a 26 prospect will sign, build a team any top player would cosider playing for. I was refering to team success not individual awards. Do you honestly think the team will enjoy the same success when Clark leaves? Since you brought up individual awards, who among the 23 or 24 class do you see becoming big or national player of the year?

I am good with the thread being about Greenway - she has a good game. I just responded to you saying Iowa is going to be in for a rude awaking when Clark leaves.

I am not going to be doom and gloom about it. That is the nature of sports, athletes eventually move on in life.

Which is the point of this thread and others like it - to take about what the future might look like. Hopefully Greenway comes to Iowa, I have a purple jersey and black jersey hanging on the wall with the same name on the back. Her Dad was always my favorite - so easy to want to root for her as well.

Nobody thought after Megan Gustafson won multiple national player of the year awards that we would have another athlete back in the conversation this soon. So I have no idea who could become a national player of the year candidate in the future. For all I know her name is Hannah.

Anyway, I like the future for Iowa Women's Basketball - it is bigger than one player, even if that one player may go down as the greatest of all time. From Michelle Edwards all the way to Clark - been a fun team to watch. Do not see that changing.

With the addition of USC and UCLA in 24, and the way teams, like Michigan for instrance, are getting top players, I do beleive that if Iowa, with the 23 and 24 class, is in for a rude awakening. IMO the Hawks are a slightly above average team without Clark. Not doom and gloom just facts. You and I are both fans, I would love to have Greenway join the Hawks. I just think Iowa should strive for the top and the 23 and 24 classes do not inspire me.

I do beleive that if Iowa, with the 23 and 24 class, is in for a rude awakening.

2 top 100 recruits in those classes. Two classes that were going to be hard to recruit to as playing time as a freshman and sophomore is going to be limited. Two extremely talented Ava's - obviously one of them is not going to be playing anytime soon.

If Caitlin returns for her 5th year - there are no more scholarships available for 24, unless someone transfers.

As recruited - Iowa's starting lineup in 2025 projected to have 5 top 100 recruits.

Anyway you look at it in 25 a lineup that has Hannah Stuelke, Jada Gyamfi, Ava Heiden, and Taylor McCabe in it already looks dangerous. With Ava Jones that would could be an absolutely loaded lineup. Obviously we will never know how they develop until they get on campus and it happens or doesn't..

And who knows what happens next - plenty of talented girls being recruited in for the 25 and 26 classes already.

Side note - of the top 60 rated girls for 2024, only four of them have committed. Iowa being one of the four schools with a commitment in Ava Heiden.

So yes - bring on Greenway. McCabe and Hannah both graduate the year before and we will probably need a scorer.

I've talked to Chad briefly in Des Moines a couple times when watching Maddyn play at a couple of AAU tournaments. The vibe I got is the latter. Obviously, he wants her to play at Iowa, but he isn't going to force her there if that isn't what she wants. With that being said, I don't know what she is thinking right now. I would guess Iowa is the leader until someone else makes a very very compelling argument to be chosen.

I will take my chances with the ‘24 & ‘25 women‘s teams chances at a final four over the men’s.

Sorry but this is a weird take. For one, I think Bluder has proven that all she needs to build a competitive team is one star and a few other Top 100 recruits. She did it with Sam Logic, Megan Gustafson, and now Clark. Each iteration has been better than the last. Of course we'll be in for some adjusting after Clark leaves. That is not news. Any team not named Stanford, UConn or South Carolina would have to figure some things out.

But with our current fresh/soph class + the incoming recruits we have lined up, we certainly have a chance at competing for a Top 3/4 place in the B1G + Sweet 16 berth in coming seasons. Our current freshman class promises to be a highly impactful one, and the current sophomore class also has talent. Ava Heiden is hands down the biggest get by Bluder since Clark. They have never recruited a post with such potential, I think she promises to be their piece de resistance tbh. There are plenty of other elite recruits in the mix as well -- Addi Deal is a fan, Greenway is Greenway, we are also on Britt Prince's radar, it seems.

Add to that the transfer portal + likely continued success over this and the next two seasons, it doesn't matter if our '23 / '24 classes aren't the best on paper. We may never be a blue blood but that doesn't mean we'll all of a sudden collapse and become Minnesota.

Rude awakening, Not doom and gloom just facts. Are you serious ? Iowa womens basketball has been trending upward for several years. With Lisa coaching and Jan working with our posts we are not going anywhere. We have outstanding support ( attendance is incredible), a very exciting brand of basketball that kids like to play and we have had great history with coach C Vivian Stringer and Lisa Bluder. Seems to me you are a glass half empty person.I am not worried about our future after Clark. We will be just fine. :)

I can get lost in YouTube watching videos of the same shot I have already seen her make 826 times.

No doubt we are so damn lucky.

That said...I am pumped for the future. More than one of those 8 and 9 year old girls at opposing stadiums, that Caitlin spends more time than anyone else signing autographs and spending time with...is going to be top recruits in a decade.

Only request I have for the future is that they are still the same in loving to play and that shows on the court.

By the way...Greenway had 41 tonight :)

I think it’s been proven a top talent can win and shine at Iowa. I’m sure Maddie sees herself in that mold. There will definitely be some pieces to help her and she may well bring some others with her.

That would be nice, but so far Lisa has not brought any top talent using the CC effect so not betting they get both heck possible neither end up at Iowa.

Hannah?

Ava..and Ava?

McCabe?

Jada?

Injuries have knocked both Ava's out of the rankings - but all those are top 100.

And I would say the reach is growing - getting a top ranked post out of Oregon is not nothing.

Stuelke committed before CC. No Caitlin effect there.

I forgot that. A good six months before Clark.

So hell she can get top talent without the "CC effect"

Reality is Bluder has done an amazing job recruiting to a team that had the same five starters for three years....not much of a chance at early playing time.

It’s hard to predict the impact of NIL on recruiting long term anymore. Kids will follow the money. Just look what’s happening in other sports.
