Loved coming here and seeing all the recruiting news. All the excitement around the program. Log in and see we have recruits visiting and committing left and right. It used to seem like every day I came here there was new exciting news.

Been months without any good news / momentum. That’s bad for the program. No buzz.

Anybody really think he makes it a third year? If he does which he probably will then I’m gonna assume he’s here until he says he’s done. Ten/fifteen years.

It’s nice seeing all the football buzz

Coaching staff must have some type of cloaking device so that it can’t be reported them watching a recruit. There is absolutely zero info on the staff out visiting or watching recruits.
I’m not that big a football fan but I am glad getting it turned around

Can you differentiate between:

A.) Should he get a third year (most people on this board would say no.)?

B.) Will he get a third year?

Those are not the same question and anyone who is telling you he WONT get a third year are either misinformed or feeding you their cognitive bias. Unless something majorly changes, Pope will get a third year. The people who are saying he won’t get a third year are able to bet me my $100 versus theirs straight up.

Yea we all know he will be here another year. But I don’t see how the third year is supposed to be the special make or break year. If he’s back after this year assuming we don’t turn it around then what makes anybody think next year is his do or die year. Pope will be here awhile I’m afraid.

Imagine we limp into the tournament with a 10 seed, lose in the first round and then next year is another below average season — I don’t think he stays. Obviously, it’s not my call but that seems to be what the expectation is. Next year would be a hot seat year.

Maybe, hard to say. No way to know what kind of progression we get from some of the guys. Also, no idea what our portal outlook will be.

its just an odd look / feeling / vibe watching everything transpire, I'll say..... and as we learn more about the behind the scenes, it's become a struggle instead of everyone firing on all cylinders. Again. For a second season, blown to bits by injuries.

It's become circle the wagon mentality, and we have no choice. Although I can't help but think that most of our guys simply are not playing to the level of their collective ability, which WOULD make them better than the sum of their parts.

They have to collectively pick it up and they know it.

Knoxville is another great test to see if we are truly making any progress.

Go Big Blue

That won’t be known for another several months. Could we see enough from Moreno for him to become that? Maybe. Do we go land a stud in the portal to fill that role? Maybe. The problem right now is we don’t know who will fill what role a year from now until we see more.

Example:

Moreno — He’s a definite beg-him-back level guy. Is he a starter or a star next year? Could be either one, but he’s at minimum a starter

Williams — I’ve seen enough to absolutely want him back. Is he a starter next year? I lean towards yes.

Lowe — Most fans don’t want him back. I think they’re crazy. I want to know how Pope decides this one. Rumor is he was not on a multi-year deal and probably won’t be back. If I’m Pope I’m going all-in on him as a starter next year.

Johnson — Unless I see more, I let him leave. Just being honest.

Noah — Is he okay coming back as a late rotation specialist and working his tail off on conditioning all offseason or even considering a redshirt?

Jelavic — Can he show enough to potentially be a day-one starter next year? He’s showing some real progression.

Dioubate — I genuinely love the kid’s game. He doesn’t fit. Gotta let him find a new home.

Garrison — Love his potential but it’s always flashes. Let him walk.

…All of it can change very quickly.

Definitely two different questions. Do I think he should get another year based on conditions at this time ? No, just my opinion.

Do I think he will get a 3rd year based on our AD? Unfortunately a good chance in my opinion. Again just my opinion.

recruiting news used to be more exciting than the actual games the last few years as the product on display wasn't up to UK standards especially this year

I think all knows he will get a 3rd year but it’s up in the air after that. We still have to play this year out where we have a very strong chance to miss the tourney. If year 3 produces similar results and recruiting still failing as it is now then a change will have to be made. I think a change is inevitable and I would do now but at least there’s football to look forward too for the moment.

I don’t really care about HS recruits personally. This year not withstanding they’re usually meh outside of 1 or 2. I also personally think Popes coaching style and personality isn’t really effective for an 18 year old freshman. Golden and Sampson and a slew of other coaches have built their programs with upper class transfers and I think that’s better suited for Pope as well frankly.

Pretty good analysis but I’m curious what have you seen from Lowe that makes you want him back? Let’s assume he doesn’t have shoulder issues next year.

That’s the crazy part to me is why next year? Ik because Mitch but I’m saying he’s on the hot seat now with fans. Will he ever be on the hot seat with Mitch?

Limp by make the tournament like you said doesn’t get him fired why would Mitch fire him the next year or the next? Popes seat might not ever get hot is what I’m afraid of.

Nothing at Kentucky. But go watch some of his Pitt film. He didn’t shoot the three good but he can take over a game. Even with Louisville keying on him all game and with no help, he killed the Cards one game relentlessly. I’d say the St. John’s game was the best example we got of what he can be. I don’t blame any fans that don’t want him — but I did i think 4 full games of his prior to Kentucky. I know the percentages weren’t great but he was an outstanding player imo. Go watch for yourself and you’ll see.

Key differences:

When healthy, he’s not afraid of contact and he can finish under heavy duress. He’s extremely quick and can finish with both hands either direction he dribbles. He’s also an incredible passer, something we didn’t get to take advantage of enough because we were effectively forced into making him a score-first guard because defenses weren’t going to overplay him at 75% health.

Mitch won’t be the one to fire him. Mitch will be gone by then. But I’m not buying the narrative that Pope’s just gonna be here indefinitely — no matter what we think of the athletic department, they know there’s a standard here and if it isn’t met, changes will absolutely happen.

I don’t have a problem with Lowe. He’s just not my preference. I like taller point guards with a little mean streak in them.

Guess what I’m tryna say is it would be nice to have a little more testosterone at the pg spot next year.

I also like big guards. I still hope Lowe is back.
Of all the obvious misses this summer like Wilson Wilkerson Dent and Yaxel…. The one I wanted the most was the Pierre jr guy. Don’t think he was a point guard but we have a bunch of two guards playing point anyway. Have no clue how he’s doing this year but I really wanted him. Looked like a dog on top of having the perfect build for a basketball player.

I haven’t watched any SMU, so I know nothing but he’s performing as expected. Good scoring on very good efficiency, slightly negative assist to turnover ratio and tragically bad defensive efficiency numbers. Can’t judge much by defensive metrics though, especially for wings and guards.
