This has the making of a major storm for ky with ice up to 1.5 inches for parts of the state. With temps below freezing for weeks this could be a disaster. If you live in central ky prepare today if you can. No electricity for 3days or longer is possible.

If we get 1.5 inches of ice, lots of areas will be without power for 1-2 weeks. My location got hit hard by the ice storms of 2021 and 1994. I don't look forward to experiencing a repeat of that.

Not looking forward to it. I don’t care about 4-5 inches of snow but the mix and ice can stay away.
I think it still could go various directions. I'm not saying don't be prepared, but the National Weather Service this morning is basically calling for a range of <2-4 inches of mostly snow with some possibility of ice in that. I expect the forecast will change in the next 48 hours some, but it's not time to panic by any means.
I’m supposed to be driving up for the Alabama game from South Carolina. Will that be possible still if this hits like that?

Hopefully my part of KY that borders TN will miss it. I hate winter weather except Christmas, then it can melt as fast as it came after Christmas is over.
Down here we're hoping for not much either. I have to be at work tomorrow night and I really don't want to have to drive in ice. I have hours to cover one absence but that's it. Rather not be out of work yet again. I HATE this crap.
This. I don't mind seeing one snow. But then it can go away. I'm convinced people that go "Yay! Snow! Bring it on!" are the most sheltered and entitled people. Anyone who has to work or a living or shovel out hates this crap.
Oh yeah for sure. It been snowing 30 min here and I've done tracked it down on radar and everything. Current cell seems to be clearing about 15 min from now. I'm already thinking how crappy my drive to work will be if it doesn't slow down.
I’ll believe it when I see it. They always pump these things up then we end up with a dusting or just a little ice on the windshield.

It's people that work for schools or daycares. They don't have to deal with it. But they don't need a major winter storm. They just need a forecast for half an inch or so or the temperature to drop down to about 10 degrees to be off work.

I have to disagree with this as I get local weather out o Evansville Ind. and they pretty well right most of the time. Hopefully we won't get that much ice. 2009 was very bad here.
I may be the exception to your possibly accurate opinion, but I freaking love a good snow. I like the challenge of it. And the beauty. I don't think I could truly be happy outside the Midwest, cause I like having all four seasons. Terrible days help you appreciate beautiful days, IMO.
I like snow, a lot, and good thing. We've had over five feet so far this winter. I still get out and do what I want unless it get's really cold. I clear my drive with a scoop, no big deal, it's life in the north it's what you do.
But I hate that ice and "wintry" mix business in Kentucky. It's just awful, you can't do anything in it, the power goes out for weeks, no thanks.

Yeah - once we're down to 12 hours or so, they revise it so they look like they were close. But in the days prior, they scare people into watching.
Don't forget the eggs and toilet paper. They will be all out also. Oh, and buy plenty of bottled water, some folks will be worried about frozen pipes even though modern plumbing keeps that from happening.
Right there in the middle of it in E'town. Not looking forward to it at all. A few inches of snow that would melt in a couple of days is fine, but the ice, no thanks!
NOAA is stating over 4 inches of Snow/sleet (not saying how much more yet), plus ice of up to .5 inch for Lexington/Winchester area. NOAA also stating the track is looking to go a little more south and our area could get much more snow. I do not expect to know much till tomorrow afternoon and by then we could see all snow/ all ice / all rain. lol. I have 2 bottles of propane, my generator our electric fire place that will cover 1000 sq ft area and will be stocking up on food and maybe more fuel. Generator can go propane or gas. Make sure to help neighbors, help friends and family. If you do not need to be out, stay in.
I think we get about 5 to 7 inches of snow and some ice. It will be like a Oreo Cookie, Snow about 3 or 4 inches, sleet and freezing rain about 3 tenths, snow about 3 inches. Then the artic cold. This could be around for a week or so.
Frozen pipes and power outages are my main concern. I have a house built in 1980, and pipes are on the outer wall. Next house I buy will not be that way. I had the plumbers come over today and they could not do anything to winterize my pipes (I have pex/copper). Snow, ok, Ice, stay the frick away.

The northeast still has the four seasons. None of this quick spring / quick fall crap.
Don't want ice but love a good snow. I work outside so this stuff doesn't really bother me. I'd much rather camp in it than work in it.
I always loved the 4 seasons of Kentucky til a few years ago, I spent an hour in the freezing cold to “thaw” out my wife’s car from the snow and ice. It was at that point, we decided to sell everything and move to Florida. Aside from the few hurricane scares, we do not regret the move one iota. Social media bridges the distance to our loved ones in Kentucky and keeps us somewhat connected to our beloved state. Currently 75°.
Something I learned from my Father during these freezing temperatures, leave a slight drip from you water faucets so that your pipes won't freeze and bust. I also have mine wrapped with foam tubes in the crawl space under the house. Something to keep in mind for future storms if anyone has these concerns about pipes busting.
The northwestern UP of Michigan, in the Keweenaw. We get lots of lake effect snow, the average is about 280 inches a winter, good powder. Our summers can be just glorious, too.
I'd rather have snow than ice and freezing rain. That's the worst.
