Comparative scores usually can be deceiving especially in college because of how teams improve but try to wrap your head around these from this year.

Stanford- 6
Northwestern- 16

Iowa- 40
Northwestern- 10

Rose Bowl

Stanford- 35
Iowa- 0. at Halftime.

Easy. Stanford loss was early in year. Northwestern is a good but not great team. Iowa should have beaten MSU and probably feels they should or could have played in playoffs. Stanford playing with chip on shoulder and is looking for next year. IMO, McCafferty is front runner for 2016 Heisman.

Can't argue with those points but I will never understand how a team like Iowa can be disinterested or not thrilled to be playing in a game like the Rose Bowl especially when you have over a month to get ready.

Stanford could have used that same excuse. If not for a late season 2 point loss to Oregon they would have been a virtual lock to be in the 4 team playoff.

Shaw>Ferentz probably has something to do with it too.

I think how teams match up with one another has a lot to do with it as well.

But, that reminds me . . . how comparative scores can lead to ridiculous arguments. If Clemson wins the championship this year, we don't get to play the game since they are undefeated. But, assuming Alabama wins, are they really champs?

Here we go:

Ole Miss beat Alabama
Memphis beat Ole Miss
Navy beat Memphis
Houston beat Navy
UConn beat Houston
Missouri beat UConn
Kentucky beat Missouri (careful - don't want to stop here)
Vanderbilt beat Kentucky
South Carolina beat Vanderbilt
The Citadel beat South Carolina

Ergo, if Alabama wins January 11th, The Citadel will be National Champs meaning no matter what happens, the NC will be found in the State of South Carolina. Coach McDonnell will be damn proud of his alma mater.

I don't buy into the whole team A doesn't want to play in the bowl game. Because of the layoff between bowl games it comes down to coaching. It's the Rose Bowl ppl dream of of New Year's day playing in the Rose Bowl.

UConn beating us a couple years ago was a head scratcher too.

It's football. When you play with a ball that has points on both ends, it bounces funny. Things happen. Mental challenges are there as well as physical. Overlooking people is inevitable. How many on here had Houston as a "sure win" in August? So did the team. Everybody has those "sure win" games to lose. And some do.

That's why an undefeated season is SO VERY hard to achieve. At any level.
