So the Twitter scuttlebutt is that Malik C might be getting interest from Oklahoma. Their QB Caleb Williams just entered the portal and Malik started following Venables and two Sooners Jody Demling types.

Well, well…Dillon Gabriel just flipped from UCLA to Oklahoma so Malik is safe for now.

Biggest issue?

OU isn’t the same with Venables as HC as it was with Riley. Jeff Lebby is also their OC, so idk if that would be a great fit for Malik.

There are a lot of average to worse QBs starting at "next level college" programs. People get drunk off this high end P5 stuff. No doubt those programs are the top programs, but normally what separates those programs from the lower tier is the depth overall and high end talent all over the starters spots. Many of these teams have problems at QB. Michigan made the playoff with a game manager playing QB.

Other than Corral, the rest of the top QB draft picks are outside of the SEC/Big12/Big10. SEC/Big12 have systems that focus on dual threat types. Malik would do just fine at LSU/Auburn/FLA/Baylor, etc. We are very, very lucky to have him.

I do agree he'd be best off staying here where he doesn't have to "start over" though.

Malik does not have the passing accuracy for a “next level College role”. In truth, he probably fits this situation at UL, as well as any right now.
Despite his shortcomings as a passer, Malik will likely be on every pre-season award watch list next year, including the Heisman. His level of athleticism and experience will be hard for others to match. He just needs to put it all together.

He is doing things that only Lamar Jackson has done. I agree. Anyone who doesn't think we're lucky to have him, or thinks we need to start Evan Conley (LOL) instead, is just talking out their *** or are just being a contrarian pain in the *** for the sake of appearing interesting on a message board.

It could have been Okie fans showing interest in Malik. It seemed to be a lot of fans pushing him. I actually saw Malik’s response to one of the Okie fans tweets. His response was just “Wow”. I didn’t take it as a positive wow. More of a really? I don’t think he thought twice about leaving. The Okie fan tried to entice him with the old you can get a Heisman here. To which I laughed. Now if they were to offer him a bunch $$$ we’ll that’s totally different. Glad he’s staying. He’s a special QB and people outside of this program understand that. We as a fan base take him for granted. I don’t though.

Malik certainly lacks long range accuracy but has "looked OK" in the short- medium game. The big questions for me are how and where does the passing game fit into what they call their offense and can this staff coach the passing game? (Even with good passing game players it still takes practice.)

Peace

Yet Malik holds the record for completions over 70 yards or greater by 4 passes over LJ and I think Redmen.

I agree with both WC and CardFirst. Malik was most effective in delivering those slant routes, as well as several deep routes ……. but only when he could overcome his relatively short height, that limited his vision of his receivers. Taller QBs have the advantage in seeing the entire field while in the pocket, something that plagued this offense during Malik’s career here. His deep throws are more dependent on high elevation that allows fast receivers to get under the ball, as compared to a more direct trajectory.

Another limitation is more on Satterfield than Malik, but Malik’s physicality seems to prohibit him taking the snap under center, and getting critical short yardage up the middle. Our loss to Clemson goes to Satterfield, but Malik‘s size helps explain why we failed to score despite the first and goal opportunity late in the 4th quarter.

Malik fits our personnel here at UL; we simply still have a limited roster to overcome our weaknesses.

Malik's problem is finding the 3rd and 4th options and he's not good at evaluating defenses at the line of scrimmage.

Exactly! Malik's athletism gets him the numbers he has. If he had a better awareness of defenses he would be a pro prospect. This is something Lamar had to improve at which he did because of his determination to be the best. Malik has one season left to improve this part of being a QB.
