Marcus might be a good kid, even a great kid. That said, how do you put a kid from a team under UNCs circumstances on 1st Team Academic AA?
He has had a mediocre year to boot. What, does he have a 4.2 *** in molecular biology. Chemical engineering?! Did he cure cancer of solve world hunger? Honestly, nothing against Marcus. As others have said, he is one of the most likeable UNC guys in a while, and one of the only ones who appears to play with real heart when the going gets tough.

Just because UNC cheated for two decades doesn't mean there weren't or aren't student-athletes who have worked hard and earned an honest degree. Of all the things we can go after UNC? Weaksauce.

I dislike Marcus simply because he's a Chapped Heel but if he was a Dukie we would be proud.
Good for any kid that has that honor regardless where they came from
UNCheat aside, he has had a mediocre to good year basketball wise. Honest question, does he have a 4.0 in a really tough major. If he does, fine, sincere congratulations. But, he did make 1st Team after all. Lot of kids with good grades that had a better season.
Gotta line up w/df on this one per the AA ACADEMIC TEAM,..ALSO, Just spoke with a very classy Wake fan who was close to the late Skip Prosser. He said given The ex Deacon's coach emphasis on academics, Skip would be ashamed a Tar Heel would have received honor in his namesake, considering scandal. Gotta think the Swofford effect is weighing heavy in that regard...
I don't know what his major was but I think he initially was doing nursing but the curriculum couldn't work around the basketball schedule. Isn't he a 3 time academic all american? Not positive but I thought so.
Marcus may , indeed , be a "good kid." The problem here isn't the fact he was named to the all-academic team. The problem is unx's cynical use of 'im as a PR tool. First , their board of trustees parade Marcus ( and some "select" others ) out in front of the press as some kinda proof that unx doesn't cheat their azzes off where academics and athletics are concerned. Had their corruption never come to light that little dog-n-pony show never happens. Now , he's named to the all academic team ( as was McCants as was Melvin Scott as was God knows who else who didn't deserve it! ) and it reeks of publicity stunt rather than a legit honor that Paige himself earned. Of course , that's not his fault it's his alma mater's. 5+ years ago , unx makes an announcement like this an' moves on. This time , it's obvious overkill. "Look at Marcus Paige. Model student-athlete yada yada yada." It's cynical...and transparent. #carolinaway
