I’ll give u the basics. He said he didn’t think our defense changing defense had much to do with our comeback. He said they still got really good looks. Maybe not quite in the same rhythm as the first half but still liked their shots. Said they missed a bunch of shots and free throws that they normally make. Said it was a hell of a basketball game

They also shot way too good in the 1st half and it wasn't sustainable.

Yeah I tried to listen and stopped the second he said they just missed shots. Said they had plenty of great looks that they made in the second half and just missed in the second. He’s an arrogant pos.

They did miss several good looks, but that’s part of the game. Can you hit the good looks when a team is making a run at you and you start feeling tight?
Yeah, those misses in the second half was because they were gassed from chasing us. Legs got weak. Makes ya shoot short or overcompensate. We got into their legs.

Gonzaga played their best half of the year in the 1st half. We played probably our best half in the 2nd half. There was a lid on that one goal.

Yeah, he didn't have many compliments to give to UK, just blamed missing shots they normally make. I think he was still pretty miffed they lost that game. I can't say I blame him for being angry about the loss, but he could definitely learn some things about being magnanimous. Most coaches go overboard, almost, giving praise to opponents that beat their team. Few didn't do that, at. All. 😀

He doesn't want to encourage another opponent from copy the defense. JMO.

One of the best coaching moves Pope made all year, was going to what he called a "morph" defense where they would play zone for half the possession and then switch to man at the end. It made the Gonzaga offensive players have to think and reduced their time for them to get up a shoot to the end of the shot clock. Drew is dead wrong if he doesn't think it was something Kentucky did to disrupt their groove and flow.

One thing i definitely noticed this year is we are wearing down teams. Every single team except Clemson started fading the last 8-10 minutes of the game. Clemson didn't have to get tired because the weak calls on us kept the ball dead.

Its interesting to watch because we aren't really even pressing or getting in transition. I guess it's making them defend all our action on offense?

They like us missed wide open threes ... but they missed a ton of short shots right in the paint. He's right, they had high % free throw shooters miss several free throws in the 2nd half.
None more than important than the last one, Ike missed ...

Pope said he puts a heavy emphasis on conditioning. Playing under Pitino and all. So probably a combo of that plus our offense. Duke and Gonzaga were both gassed at the end of the game. But UK was barely tired it seemed. We just kept coming at them. Cal would have went stall ball.

oh he knows that lost was on him… he knew exactly what Pope was doing but his players were not prepared for it ( that’s on him) ….

He knew Butler was out and after Kerr got injured and after Robinson got that PG responsibilities , he didn’t reacted until very late in overtime to try to press him, trap him or speed him up….

He was very arrogant the way he wanted to beat Pope just by playing Gonzaga way…. Pope on the other hand made adjustments, sure out of necessity and being down 18 but he did make them ….

Few lost only once out of 10 games to BYU under Pope so probably that’s still fresh in his mind when he was leading 9-1. Well, Few Kentucky is not BYU.

They scored only 29 points in the second half and they were lucky to get in overtime where they never lead…. Probably he thought they won the game at half time just like we all did .

Just remember Few who ended the 175 game streak!
When they posted that graphic I had to wonder how much of that streak was made possible by that conference of cupcakes? The answer is most if it. Probably didn't have a ten point lead at halftime on most of the decent competition.

There is no way Few thought they would lose that game, especially after the first half., you can tell by the post game interview he's not used to losing games like this, much less with a 16-point lead. His answers were more of the we just couldn't hit, rather than some adjustments made by Kentucky.

Look, most of us felt the same way at halftime. Coming back from 16 down is considered a miracle for all "intensive purposes."
