With Matty Ice getting much deserved love, I wanted to give props to the big man, Bolden. He, IMO, was a big reason why the Canes pick-and-roll struggled for most of the 2nd half. Bolden's length and mobility really disrupted the Canes attempts during their sets, and the big man was all over the defensive court. He played about 11 minutes of all out hustle-ball until he started to look winded.

If Duke get this sort of performance out of Bolden moving forward, they will be a hard to team to beat, and a hard team to hang a lot of points on!

it was Bolden's length that was giving Miami fits. Louisville was going right over the top and Giles was not disrupting the dribbler enough to prevent the lob. Even if Miami wanted to lob it Bolden was getting into the dribbler and there is no way they could pass over the top. It takes a good hedge, good recovery and good help from a third defender . The key is everyone must be on the same page and the timing must be perfect so no one is left wide open at any point.

Defending the pick and roll takes good team defense no one can do it on their own. Just another example of how we are capable if we play hard and play together

In the game thread, I commented I thought he should start at the 5 now. I loved how he hustled and played with intensity. His length is a real problem for other teams on the defensive end and he's good at getting to the rim on offense when others draw the post D away.

He is simply better than Giles in the post right now and more natural there (esp. with Giles still pretty clearly hobbled and playing more passive).

I liked seeing him have fun on the court.

Yes. But, I think the key to his having fun was his playing with intensity - esp. defensively and around the rim on the offensive end - and that those guys on the court played together (in the 2nd half) and that success really brought the joy.

Bolden's size combined with Amile's insticts should make for an awesome 4/5 defensive combination. Crazy because just a week ago everyone was furious about our defense.

Don't think the defensive problems are fixed just yet. Let's see if they can continue it this game and on the road before we get over happy.

This has been a tale of two teams all season

Exactly. 1 above average game by a player who has lacked intensity all season and now people have him penciled into the starting lineup. Give it a few more games maybe.

Luke and Grayson should start (as of now) over Frank. But I do think their minutes together should be limited. Depending on the opposition, those 2 just cant keep the quick athletic guards in front of them.

Hahaha....agreed. And others who think Grayson and Luke shouldn't start.

I don't like the 2 of them in the same lineup as I think they are too similarly situated. I like a rotation that has a balance of strengths and weaknesses. They are both great players individually but IMO the key to our success is finding lineups that work well together

i feel the same way....one should be paired with either frank or matt...but limit when they are together situationally
