I do contract work for one of the companies looking to colonize Mars, cant go into a lot of details but it is closer to a reality than many would believe.

One of my favorite quotes from Apollo 13. "From now on, we live in a world where man has walked on the moon. And it's not a miracle, we just decided to go."

To me I don't doubt that we'll go to Mars.....the question is when.

I think they should have a larger overall goal of terraforming Mars. That way it could conceivably be inhabitable some day.

We should start the construction of an atmosphere. Should be ready in a couple years.

The real question is why. Yea, let's leave perfectly good ol Earth and live on an uninhabitable planet. Sounds like fun!

I understand. When we discussed space exploration in another thread, I voiced a similar opinion. Why spend billions to explore space when gov'ts are failing and people are starving here on Earth.

But, just to spark up more of a conversation, I'll counter with another quote from Apollo 13.

"Imagine if Christopher Columbus never returned to the New World."
