Penn State-Maryland wrestling match moved to Saturday due to weather concerns
Penn State will now wrestle on back to back days now due to weather concerns. The Lions will meet Maryland Saturday now.

that's way outside my knowledge base. Maryland is hosting, so a lot of the decision making about the event will be up to them. In general, schools like to hold scheduled events, though they have to follow the orders of state and regional leaders. Weather reports are generally iffy until the last 24-48 hours, so I doubt any decisions will be made before that timeframe.
As for postponed/rescheduled, that becomes an issue for the conference, and also between the schools to see if they have a date where both are free. I don't think there's a fixed rule about rescheduling.
Given the forecast for College Park for Saturday and Sunday, any chance the match will be moved to a different date?
Just to add to Tom's post, I assume some very preliminary conversations are probably already underway, but we're a ways off from getting any kind of finality.
Both teams do have Sun., Feb. 1 open. Moving it to Sun., Feb. 22 is another possibility. There are no other Fri/Sun dates that work for both schools between now and then, except for either the first or the 22nd.
5-8 inches of snow in College Park starting Saturday overnight, plus the storm hitting Baltimore and possibly Harrisburg. This Sunday looking like a no-go.
Maryland has a home men's basketball game in the Xfinity Center on Sun 2/1. So that date seems unlikely for wrestling unless at a backup gym.
Xfinity Center appears available on Sun 2/22.

Being as visiting team and officials would all travel in on Saturday, which I believe has no weather concerns I would anticipate the match happening on Sunday. I spent nearly a decade working in a B1G athletic department and for indoor sports that was pretty much the guidance - if both teams and officials have made it to town than game on. Fans can make the decision they feel is best for them and take up any grievances with the home team's ticket office; that's not conference HQ's concern.
In my experiences, I can recall exactly two times weather affected one of my indoor events (I worked in facility/event management). Once, a non-televised (B1G+) event was shifted 3 hours earlier on a Saturday due to anticipated storm hitting later on that Saturday. The other a non-televised (B1G+) event was pushed back because of travel bans by the state (visiting team bus wasn't permitted to drive on the highways to town) so they had to come in day of. Being as the Maryland dual is on Big Ten Network, I would expect almost 0% chance it gets moved unless officials or Penn St cannot get to College Park on Saturday.
The College Park weather forecast as of this morning is calling for 8-12 Saturday PM and another 8-12 on Sunday. This will be a massive storm, it appears, that would cripple the DC area if accurate.
I live in MD and we were discussing this at work yesterday. The snow forecasts for Sunday range from 25-31” on the Apple Weather to 8-12” on the Weather Channel app. Yesterday one had it as 3-5”. Monday is the first day of classes where I teach, and we’re hoping for a snow day!
It'll be fine. Just have MrsPA do the measuring.

Wrestling does not use the main Xfinity Center arena, they use the Schanwald Pavilion which seats about 1,500.
Good to know, I didn't look up the forecasts just took the info in this board that made it seem like a Sunday storm not a Saturday storm; either way given it's a TV broadcast as long as both teams and officials are in College Park I believe that match will happen.
Maryland may just want to cancel out so they won't get shutout!
Those same people have to be able to leave, right?
A novel thought...instead of postponing/cancelling the wrestling how about cancelling the snow. Just a thought!

Weird winter here in Utah. I think we've had light dusting of snow once this season and I'm 1.5 miles from the base of the Wasatch Mountains. Not 80, but it's been in the mid 50's fairly regularly. I shouldn't have even bothered buying a new set of winter tires.
Dual is in small gym, not Verizon Center court where basketball plays, correct?
If so, that will make for far fewer fans, regardless of weather.

My son works at Deer Valley in Park City and he's royally pissed because he's not making any money (he'd be making big money if there were snow).
it's not the roads you have to worry about. it's the maryland drivers flipping their cars, or abandoning them on bridges.
If I could do that, I'd consolidate all of the regional snow and dump it in one place.
Like, say, South Bend.

Or you could have gone with something less political, like maybe, "San Diegans are just like the weather: light and airy."
Sure on the ramps and overpasses like I-70 triple bridges and I-83 inside the beltway. But the team should be in College Park before the snow sets in. And I think most bridges could be strategically avoided on the way back to State College.
I generally agree - from everything I've seen, getting there shouldn't be the problem. But once there, they're not going anywhere for a while.
I hope the team does not get snowed in and turn to cannibalism. If it did, probably Kasak would be the last one standing. Because if you can eat a cow, you can eat any mammal.
Yes but in my experiences that's never been a consideration on whether the event happens or doesn't - especially when TV is involved
Why not handle it like Iowa and Ohio State? Just declare it an official shutout, count it in your own record books. Hell, give PSU a 60-0 win and claim another record.
