Maryland isn’t a good team

But we fought through an ugly game to win on the road. I do think we have some fight on this team. I think our first challenge is still shot selection. The abilities of Buie and Audige are critical, but they’re capable of so much more when they are just patient enough not to settle for low-percentage shots. I think we do enough other things well to keep us in a lot of games.

Maryland shot 29% from the field and 44% from 3. We shot 43% and 33%. They have talent on paper but look very ugly on the court.

We have talent for sure. We’ll need to be more mature on offense. Maryland had poor shot selection and execution. We had long stretches of the same.

Any team that aspires to be middle of the pack has to know how to win ugly like we did today. But I hope we get better on offense.

Maybe not but it was THE first time we had ever won there. We were 0-5. And we had to deal with that officiating. In other recent seasons, we would have found a way to lose that game

We would do better if CCC simply told Buie to never take a three point shot. Throughout his career he has been bad from three point range. Our worst shooting player should not be taking the most shots on the team.

Given Northwestern's basketball history, I'm not particularly concerned whether Maryland is a good team. It's a win against a Big 10 opponent on their floor, never an easy thing, and at a venue where the Cats haven't won. It's a nice start and it's nice to see that the Cats were able to have 10 players get 11 or more minutes in that game and still get the "W."

The Terps may be bad, but the win was a good one. We almost did a collapse to lose it, but we did not. The officials were not favorable. Hopefully, we learned that we can win a close one,

I think considering it was Chase's first game back, it's a big win. The chemistry should get better in the next few games. He was the leading scorer last year and the Cats have been scoring pretty well with out him. I think this is the best team Collins has put on the court since the tourney year and they look like they are improving.

The sky is falling in College Park tonight. Losing to Northwestern? Confirmation for their fanbase that Turgeon needed to go.

So we're looking for negatives in a road B10 win?
I sure don’t see it that way. The challenges are there whether we choose to recognize them or not.

it’s harder for us to get much more athletic, fast or skilled during the season. Fortunately that’s not where the challenges are. They’re more in making good choices, and fortunately that’s well within our control. We had the talent and the will to fight through some of those challenges today on the road, and that’s a big deal.

There’s something cheesy about this post.

Yeah I agree. Buie is pretty darned good when he is standing still at the 3 point line and the ball gets kicked out to him. Its a very obvious difference. Young got him a great look early and he buried it.

… I meant that he misspelled “Buie” as “Brie”…

Brutal shooting inside the arc by Maryland, but I’ll give us credit for some of that with nice interior D. Terps were 7-36 on 2s. Ayala/Russell/Scott combined to make 6 3s but went 1-20 on 2s, which almost seems impossible.

Excuse me. I don’t see a cheese pun in your post.

What are you, Feda up of this thread?

Geez, give it a rest smithee.
We made Maryland look bad. Period. Maryland will win 7 or so bigten games this year. They are a good team, just not as good as us.

Nance grew up and will be All Bigten this year. It should open up boo and audage and beran. Im thinking 8 to 12 bigten wins.
Nance is a good Big Ten player, but think about all the other frontcourt guys who are really good at their position. I'd say he has a chance to be All Big Ten.

Google’s auto spell correction of Buie’s name created such a good thread of cheese jokes, I feel a bit bad about correcting my post. Fat fingers on a smart phone with autocorrect is a bad combination.

I was surprized that first game back he was on the floor for 26 minutes. Would have thought it would have been more like 15-18

After the Florida win, Maryland is only up to #137 in the NET rankings, which means that is still a Quad 3 win for NU.
