Can someone or ones educate me on where Maryland came from in this year's recruiting? How did they manage to do so well?

No recruiting miracle...not even placing 1st well above vaunted Alabama...for years and years in a row...can negate the horrible negative impact of their gawd-awful uniforms. I'll remain a skeptic until their coach makes that change. Then, and only then, will I consider getting on the Maryland turnaround bandwagon. They could pull down only 5 star athletes across the board and still feel sh_tty about themselves taking the field with their current look.Maryland's coach, Durkin, worked for Urban Meyer and Jim Harbaugh. He also knows something about Maryland...there's plenty of talent close to home!
From the Washington Post:
The collection included 11 four-star prospects and five players ranked in the ESPN 300 – the most ever in one recruiting cycle for the Terrapins – and the foundation of the class was built on Durkin’s promise to lure homegrown talent to his rebuilding program. The class includes 17 players from the Washington area, eight of those from the prestigious Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. There are nine of the top 20 players from Maryland, and three of the District’s top nine players, according to the recruiting service Rivals.
“There’s no secret about it. That’s our formula. We’re going to take care of our backyard, we’re going to win here in the DMV. And build our team with that being our foundation,” Durkin said.

This is a perfect example of a team improving itself and when we play them the thought is they are the same old Maryland. They will improve and we will improve - who improves more is the question. I hate it when there is a lack of respect for an opponent because of how they were in the past so it is expected to be an automatic win. This could be one of the up and coming programs in the Nation if they keep this up. This league is not getting any easier for sure.
The Huskers don't play them again until 2019. I wouldn't worry about it.
Sure they would have. They had no other offers. They had a few decent seasons here and there but nothing to move the needle of their careers into big time mode. The last 2 coaches Maryland had would have stayed forever. Under Armor money and a decent recruiting base. Not a stepping stone job. They've had fewer coaches since 2000 than Nebraska. Ha ha
Don't disagree. Whatever the semantics are... I think this guy has his eyes on bigger things than the head coaching gig at Maryland. He had ties, if memory serves, with Harbaugh and Urban M. I think he has ambitions. Obviously, I could be wrong.Bookmark if you want.
There is a difference between stepping stone job and an individual coach leaving for a job that fit his personal preferences.
Ark St is a stepping stone job, Cincinnati is a stepping stone job, Memphis. Those are schools that do no invest in facilities to the point power 5s do or don't have the resources to get in a bidding war for a coach in terms of salary.
It's probably semantics but Oregon was a meh job until Belloti and Kelly, now it's a destination. LSU was a turnstile until Saban.
