Folks,

As we're nearing the beginning of the PSU '25-'26 season, and many of you migrated over here from Rivals since the end of the '24-'25 wrestling season, I thought I'd outline how we handle PSU matches.

For those that have been on this board since BWI moved to On3, there won't be any surprises in this info. For those that were part of the BWI community when it was on Rivals, you should remember the process, as it's pretty much the same as what I did there at that time. However, I do see a number of handles from the migration that I don't recall being on BWI before it moved to On3, so I'll go into all the details so that everybody is on the same page.

I set up a thread for each match. In it, I give all the pertinent info (time, place, TV coverage, steaming coverage, radio, etc.) in the top post in the thread. Typically, I set the thread up the day of the match. I do, at times, have conflicts between the PSU match and my reffing schedule. In situations where setting it up the day of the match may be a challenge for me, I will either set it up the day before, or I'll ask @GregPickel to set it up.

The match thread is the place to discuss the the matches that take place. Any and all are welcome to contribute to the thread. I often provide PBP of the matches. That said, due to reffing conflicts, vacations, etc., I will miss a number of matches. I always indicate in the top post whether I can provide PBP. When I can't, @GregPickel often steps in, provided he doesn't have a conflict with covering something else for BWI. I see (from what others have posted) that @SlipperyPete started doing PBP on the Rivals board after BWI moved to On3. And I've enjoyed his PBP for events in recent weeks. If we have multiple people doing PBP, it's not a problem. And because I typically miss about 1/3 of the PSU matches due to my schedule, and have a extended vacation scheduled for this coming February, it would be great if others provide PBP. And even if you don't post PBP of a match, it's always great to have folks posting about individual moves, etc. About the only thing I hope we can avoid, is prolonged tangent discussions in match threads.

@GregPickel and I do also post social media posts (i.e., tweets) about matches. It's a way to quickly post results, get short videos of matches, etc., in the appropriate thread.

It helps to remember that match threads serve a lot of purposes. Some folks have to work, and don't have the ability to have the audio stream of the match playing while they work. For them, match threads are often the only way they can follow along, and gets results. Others are traveling, and can't access the video stream or the TV coverage, so it's a means for them to follow the dual and get results. And others don't subscribe to BTN, or to BTN+, and as such can't watch the TV/video streaming coverage, so match threads provide them with context on each match. And there are others that enjoy PSU wrestling, but don't have a wrestling background, so match threads help them to learn the PSU wrestlers, learn the wrestling moves, learn the wrestling rules, etc. Please try to remember in your posts in match threads that you're speaking to a wide audience. But don't feel as though you can't post a quick reaction to a refs decision you disagree with, or an outcome that frustrates you. Match threads are for PSU wrestling fans, so if that's you (and probably is if you're reading this), then please contribute to match threads as you feel moved to do so.

In years where PSU is in an in-season tournament, I'll set up either a tournament thread, or a thread for each session. For the B1G tournament, and for NCAAs, I'll set up a thread for each session.

PSU's first dual is this coming Friday. And as luck (or lack thereof) would have it, I have a conference to attend Fri., Sat., and Sun., and will totally miss the dual. That is, if my flights aren't canceled (still a possibility). So unless I indicate otherwise, I'll be setting up the PSU - Oklahoma match thread on Thursday, and will be out for PBP and any other contributions to the thread (at least while it's taking place).

Here's to another great season of PSU wrestling, and a lot of great match threads in the coming weeks and months.

Any questions about the above, just ask. I tried to cover everything pertinent to how we handle match threads, but probably missed a few things.
