Remember going to games there at Freedom Hall with my dad see the Colonels play. My first time seeing Dr J play. Been my favorite NBA player ever since.
Loved the Kentucky Colonels, Dan Issel, Artis Gilmore, Louie Dampier with John Tong as the P.A. man in Freedom Hall, it didn't get much better.
Remember watching exhibition between colonel and bucks. Jabbar and Gilmore. Great basketball
used to go to most home games with my dad @ freedom hall
we even went to the games @ the old convention center downtown

Hilarious, at the very beginning of the broadcast they actually say (paraphrasing), Artis Gilmore, 7'2", but 7'6" with the Afro (shout-out to Fletch).

Still have my ticket stub. That particular team well could have won the NBA championship that year as well. Hell of a team that were a complete team. Great defensive team. Had the size and toughness that could impose their will on about any team. Could score from any position!
Have my stub as well, great memories growing up going to games with my dad.
Remember Gilmore coming out of locker room wearing a mink coat and carrying a 12 pack.
Rick Berry signing my program was pretty cool always loved his game.
But Big Dan Issel damn I'm 65 now but Dan is still the best.
Couple of personal thoughts:
1. My late older brother was best friends with the GM of the Colonels (Dave Vance). I met him often, great guy.
2. In the late 1970s, my best friend and I were playing golf at the course in Frankfort, Kentucky. When we came into the clubhouse, Artis was there. Very nice guy; his driver was as tall as me (6 ft)

Remember Wendell Ladner of the Colonels (played one season). Killed in a plane crash.
I loved going to games with my Father and Uncle. Listen to Van Vance on the call for games we didn't go to.
Wasn't he the player that dived into a glass water cooler, trying to get the basketball, cutting himself pretty bad?
The following season after the Colonels had won the ABA championship, they played the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors in a pre season exhibition game & the Colonels beat them. Kind of a big deal at the time.
If Louie had the three in college Kentucky runts would not have lost a game
They would travel to around the state I saw them play in Richmond eku and few times in freedom hall . Loved the aba
I was at that game. It was a great one. That was my22nd birthday. I went to many Colonels games. Hated to see them fold.
Yes. You should read the book “Loose Balls”. It’s a great book about the ABA and has a lot of interesting stories in it.
Another Ladner story from "Loose Balls". They were fly into Washington DC for a game. Ladner looked out the window and saw the Washington Monument and said, "that must be the Washington Post".
