Media doubt

It amazes me at all the talking heads still doubting us and many saying the UK-Wisky game is the championship and if UK and Duke both make it we are not a threat. After beating Utah and the Zags who many had us picked to lose to blows my mind that they still have no respect for us.. I kinda enjoy the hate tho and ready to prove em wrong Go Duke!

Essentially

Watch us become the media darlings after Wisconsin is knocked out. What made me laugh was people mentioning Gonzaga missed layup while congratulating Kentucky for playing a/in a great game.

Yup. Iowa state will beat Duke, too many mismatches, Duke struggles on defense. Oh, UA who?

Gonzaga is too strong and too efficient on offense and Duke's guards are undersized. Yada yada yada.

I'm cool with it though. How many years has Duke been the team most picked to win it and fell short? I have no problem with the lack of love Duke is getting. I am a little surprised by it though.

I don't feel putting us at #3 is disrespectful
- Kentucky is undefeated
- Wisconsin is experienced

But Duke/MSU being almost a coin toss is laughable. We have a bigger edge than UK has over Wisky

The first 2 months of the season and Duke and Kentucky are the best teams in the country. Let's just fast forward to the final now. We lose 2 games, in a row, and one at home, and that's it. We can go 14-1 or whatever it is with the wins we have in that stretch, but 2 games sealed our fate. Plus, I think the media understands how America feels about Duke as a whole and will only try to keep them engaged and speak negatively on purpose. It's good for ratings and views.

But, if Duke plays UK on Monday and Duke should win, these same media members will say how they knew the 2 best teams were Duke and Uk and that Duke was the only team that could be UK. It's ok. It's always been this way for us fans of Duke.

I still think it's kind of funny that for about the last month or so of the regular season that so many announcers/analysts said that Duke was one of maybe a few teams that would have a chance to beat Kentucky but yet most if not all of them didn't even pick Duke to make it to the Final Four.

DJ PTI both talked about it and on around the horn. Also a lot have said that Wisconsin has the best shot to beat UK now so essentially I feel that equates us to not mattering in there eyes.

Every game since UNC all I've heard is every reason why we are going to lose from the media. UNC was too big and athletic up front, State had too many shooters and shot blockers, Utah and SDSU had too much size and defense, Gonzaga too much size and shooting. Fine by me. Let them talk.

Yep, I feel much better when the expectation is on another team.

Yeah, in 2010 they said Baylor's length and athleticism would be too much for Duke. Then they said West Virginia's strength, toughness, and athleticism would be too much for Duke. I remember seeing an article written after our loss at Maryland that year that the writer thought that game showed why Maryland was better built for the tournament than Duke. Of course we all remember Pat Forde's "10 Teams that can win it all and 1 that can't" article along with Doug Gottlieb's "alarmingly unathletic" comments.

I have found CBSSports to be a bit more level-headed in regards to how it views Duke. There was a lot of praise on the CBSSports tournament show last night after the game, even Seth Davis was giving Duke's defense well deserved praise and Mateen Cleaves said he was worried about the matchup. Today they have their Final Four rankings and picks, they do have us 3rd behind Wisconsin but they say it's "centimeters" difference between Duke and Wisconsin and it's primarily based on their feel that Wisconsin has played slightly better in the tournament. Can't complain about that because our offense wasn't really there this last weekend. All but one of their "experts" picked Duke to beat Gonzaga and all but one has picked Duke to beat MSU, and unbelievably Gottlieb picked us in both matchups.

I don't really watch a whole lot of those opinion/debate driven shows on either channel though, most of it is like reality television, scripted and guided in one direction or another by writers, producers, the network, etc.

Kornheiser on PTI admits to not watching most of the topics they discuss. He admitted to falling asleep during the ND/UK game but then has the media floor to discuss the upcoming games?

He stopped trying a long time ago. He's just there because he is a good interviewer and is good arguer with Wilbon.

95% of the sports media should be ignored as they truly do not undertsand the game or have a personal promotion agenda. Mike Greenburg this morning said Chris Mullin will pull weight with recruits b/c he's a true NY'er and there's no better place to win than NY. Yup, kids will turn down Duke, UK, Wisc & MSU b/c Chris Mullin was great player 30 years ago. This is on an ESPN national radio show.

3 years ago I stopped watching all pre-game shows(football, hoops, baseball) b/c it is a waste of time.

PTI is funny b/c Tony & Wilbon are like an old married couple but they make mistakes on every show. Around the Horn just flat out makes you dumber if followed.

None of these guys understand what a backscreen is but will stomp their feet that UK could beat an NBA team.

Personally, I prefer that the media keep talking about Kentucky-Wisconsin, and also about Michigan State and the great job that Izzo is and has been doing.
Please let us stay in the background, don't talk about us, don't be worried about Duke!
But most of all, please don't talk about a monumental matchup of Kentucky-Duke before it is time, we have to get there first!!!
Go Duke!!

If you look at it from a UK perspective...we are actually one of the teams they don't want to run in to. Look back over the season at some of the "vaunted" defenses we simply out shot, virgina, Wisconsin, etc. We have the capacity and difference makers at multiple positions to give their "vaunted" defense a lot of trouble. Don't get me wrong...we have some match up trouble with them too, if I were Cal I'd try to postup the Harrison twinson our guards every man to man offensive set I could...don't surprised to see the Duke zone a lot if they play. It would not surprise me at all if we won by 10-15 and had all the talking heads scratching them instead of talking so much...lets get by MSU first though.

I don't know. 6 of the 7 "experts" on ESPN picked Duke to beat Michigan St. It sounds like most are predicting a Duke-UK championship game. UK will be pretty heavily favored to win that game (prob -280) so I don't know that picking UK to win the championship is disrespecting Duke. I am a Duke fan and I think UK will win the championship. Doesn't mean I don't respect Duke.

Expert picks (insider)

Laettner, agree 100%. This is an annoying time of the year when all the national media types have the float on over to college basketball and pretend for a couple weeks that they know college basketball.

I'm in my 30s and barely remember watching Mullin. I highly doubt any teenager has ever heard of him and I highly doubt any teenager remembers a time when St Johns was nationally relevant. Mike and Mike will make you dumber.
